R5 PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 0 losses; Enrique Montoya! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 1 losses; Rhaegar Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Glass and Colin Fotheringham.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Montoya drives through and clinches with Gracie against the cage.
Montoya tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Montoya jumps guard but Gracie turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Montoya gets control of Gracie's arms and successfully pulls guard. Montoya will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Gracie passes Montoya's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Gracie stalling.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Montoya is trying to maintain the position but Gracie is very close to passing his half guard.

It looks like Gracie might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Gracie is just content to waste time from the top position. Montoya takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Montoya wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Montoya is pulling down on Gracie's head to control his posture.

Gracie can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Montoya is looking to escape.

Montoya tries to hold on but Gracie postures up.
Montoya keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Gracie wants to control but Montoya has made it back to half guard. Nice work.
Gracie is controlling the pace.

Gracie seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Montoya does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Gracie tries to pass the half guard into mount. Montoya knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Gracie is just content to waste time from the top position. Montoya takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Montoya swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gracie is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
