PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Demetrius Pierce (ranked 3963 p4p, 3958 weight class) and Esteban Smith (ranked 430 p4p, 429 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Esteban Smith!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Percy O'Donnell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pierce clinches.
A frustrated look appears on Smith's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Smith gets control of Pierce's arms and successfully pulls guard. Smith will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Pierce lands a nice short elbow.

Pierce lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Pierce looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Smith with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Pierce is nestled in close to Smith, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Smith is looking for a sweep.

You can see the frustration on Smith's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Pierce's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Smith wants to control but Pierce postures up.

Pierce pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Smith gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Pierce to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Smith wriggles free and stands up.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pierce's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Pierce throws a wild body kick that Smith sees coming a mile off.

Smith will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Pierce shoots in and gets a takedown into Smith's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pierce accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Smith has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Pierce off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Smith tries to sprawl but Pierce drives through with a takedown into half guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Pierce tries to pull guard but Smith won't allow it.
Smith is looking to break free of the clinch but Pierce has double underhooks.
Pierce is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Smith tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Pierce's elbow.

Pierce works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Pierce sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Smith's guard.

Well Pierce has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
