Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ben Everett (ranked 4534 p4p, 25127 weight class) and Ruben Smith (ranked 466 p4p, 532 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ben Everett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ruben Smith!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Colin Fray and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Everett tries to land a front kick but Smith steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Everett tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Smith scores with a jab to the head.

It looks like Ben Everett has been cut.
Ruben Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smith throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Smith throws a right hand that Everett ducks under and follows up with a left that Everett also avoids with ease.

Everett closes the distance and pushes Smith back into the cage.
Smith managing to block the knees to the body from Everett.

Everett pulls Smith into guard.
Everett is pulling down on Smith's head. It's preventing any offense from Smith, at least for the moment.
Everett is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith is looking to stand up but Everett won't let him.

Everett manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Smith manages to get himself to full guard.

Everett not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Everett wants to stand but Smith is controlling his posture from full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Everett trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Everett is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Everett misses with an uppercut
and Smith counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Everett attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith scores with a one two! Everett had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Smith scores with a jab. Everett acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Smith fails to land with a series of punches.

Everett closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Smith's guard.
Smith looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Everett is looking to work some ground and pound but Smith has wrist control.
Everett stays in close to Smith's body and controls the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith keeping moving, preventing Everett from controlling successfully.
Everett pushing down on Smith's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Smith regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Everett.
Everett missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Everett showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ruben Smith will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Ben Everett's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Everett wants to clinch up but Smith keeps it at a distance.
Everett throws a head kick but Smith moves out of range.
Smith throws out a loose jab but Everett uses good head movement to avoid it.
Everett seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Everett tries for a takedown but Smith circles away easily
and Smith counters with a nice uppercut.

Everett fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Smith to the ground. Everett is now in Smith's guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Smith wriggles free and stands up.
Smith throws a big shot that misses.
Smith lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Smith scores with a decent looking hook.

Ben Everett's cut is getting worse.
A big left from Smith misses.
Smith lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Smith.
Everett showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Smith.

Smith lands a glancing blow to the side of Everett's head.
Everett dodges the punch combination from Smith.
Ruben Smith seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Some wild striking there from Smith.
A combination from Everett does no damage.
Smith lands a two punch combo.
Smith is breathing heavily.
Everett will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Smith misses with a two punch combination.

Everett has managed to clinch.
Everett misses with a short punch on the inside.
Everett has Smith pushed against the cage.

Everett has clasped his hands together around Smith's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Everett sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Smith is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Everett wants to control but Smith is keeping him busy.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Everett lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Everett tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Everett slows the pace down.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Everett feints and as Smith raises his hands in defense, Everett changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ruben Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Everett's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Smith connects with the punch.
A jab from Smith misses.

Everett clinches up against the cage.
Smith blocks the elbow strike.
Everett wants a takedown but no success here.
Everett wants to take the fight to the mat but Smith manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Smith wants to get back to striking at distance but Everett won't allow it.
Everett drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Smith gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Smith is trying to break the clinch but Everett has him pressed against the cage.

Everett is stalling here. Smith is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Everett seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Smith has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Smith decides to stand up, so the ref orders Everett to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Horrible takedown attempt by Everett or perhaps it was just good defense by Smith, which made it look bad.
Despite the aggression on Smith's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Everett looks for the body kick but Smith saw that one coming.
Smith lands a nice shot that snaps Everett's head back.
Everett has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Ben Everett is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Everett misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
The fight stays on the outside here - Everett looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Smith cracks Everett with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Ruben Smith is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Smith swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Smith checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Everett fails to land with a series of punches.
Smith goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Smith comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Smith fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A lazy left from Smith finds it's target.

Everett closes the distance and clinches.
Smith tries to circle away but Everett has him pinned against the cage.

Everett pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A punch lands to the side of Everett 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Smith's corner calls for a 1-2. Smith obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Ben Everett's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Smith lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Everett closes the distance and clinches up with Smith, looking for a takedown. Everett pushes Smith against the cage but Smith circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Ruben Smith is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Smith feints a jab promting Everett to slip. Smith then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Everett slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Everett takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Everett gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Nice takedown defense from Smith. No joy for Everett on that attempt.
Smith connects with a looping right hand.
Danga de danga de dang - Smith scores with a four punch combination!
Smith jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Smith lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Everett tries to clinch up.
Everett doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Smith counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ruben Smith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Smith winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
