PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Final Boss (ranked 4112 p4p, 3942 weight class) and Speedy Strike (ranked 436 p4p, 424 weight class). Boss comes to the cage accompanied by Hollywood theme the rock. Speedy Strike told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Final Boss!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Speedy Strike!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boss shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Strike bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Boss's head.
Boss takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Boss looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Strike keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Final Boss. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Boss decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Strike is looking for a sweep. Boss is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Strike desperately trying to maintain half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Boss controlling the pace.
Strike really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Boss. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Strike is trying to get back to full guard.
Strike trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Boss manages to pass to mount!
Strike is working to get back to half guard.
Boss fails to advance to Strike's back.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Boss takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boss sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Boss's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Boss is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Strike is in real trouble.
Boss trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Strike doesn't escape.
Strike is trying to stand back up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Boss keeps control of the position easily here as Strike tries to buck him off.

Strike is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Boss gets his way!
Boss is hanging on to Strike's back as he tries to escape.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Strike is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Strike wants to clinch.
Boss tries to counter with a takedown but Strike is quick to defend against it.
Boss tries to score a power double leg takedown but Strike sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Boss somewhat.

Strike throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Boss was covering up waiting for the punch and Strike finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Boss working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Strike doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Strike manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Boss looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Strike is looking to stand up but Boss won't let him.
Strike tries to free his leg and advance position but Boss is retaining full guard.
Strike must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Strike postures up in Boss's guard and throws a big left but Boss blocks it.
Boss is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Boss is trying to control. Strike wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Boss passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Strike!
Strike tries to hold on but Boss postures up.
Strike wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Boss.
Boss sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Boss avoids the attempt from Strike to control.
Poor strikes thrown by Boss there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Boss is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Strike to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Strike shrugs it off.
Boss trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Boss takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Strike is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Boss off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
Strike tries to roll but Boss sticks to his back.
Strike is breathing heavily.
Strike trying to control the position but Boss manages to sink in the hooks.
Boss is riding his opponent, not letting Strike buck him off.
Boss is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Strike can do to turn this around?
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Boss is punishing Strike with strikes - can he finish him?!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Boss shoots in for a double leg but Strike sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Boss stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Boss wants it to stay on the feet.
Boss tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Strike swivels and escapes.
Strike tries to counter by closing the distance.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Boss is defended easily by Strike.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Final Boss. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Strike dives in for a single leg takedown but Boss sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Boss changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Boss shoots in but no luck this time.

Boss shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Strike but Strike pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Strike fails with the takedown.
Strike takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Boss shoots in but Strike avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Strike dives in and grabs Boss's left leg, looking for a takedown. Boss pushes down on Strike's head and hops out.
Strike fails to land the takedown.
Boss has a takedown stuffed.

Strike closes the distance and pushes Boss back into the cage.
Strike tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Strike tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Boss just stands there and leans against the cage.
Boss drops down looking for an ankle pick but Strike pulls his leg out and moves away.

Strike gets a takedown into half guard.
Boss controlling the position well.
Strike misses with a head shot. Boss uses the momentum to regain guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Boss manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Strike manages to get himself to full guard.

Strike can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Boss controls the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Boss forces his way into half guard.
Boss scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Boss is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Speedy Strike.
I think Boss has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
