PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Higanti Libat (ranked 23429 p4p, 23655 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 42 - 63 - 6, fighting out of Las Vegas, Higanti Libat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 53 - 49 - 10, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Cecil Peabody and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Nice sprawl there from Libat as Sapi shoots in.
Libat is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Sapi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Libat pinned against the cage. Libat gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Libat feinted with a counter takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Libat fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Libat tries for a takedown but Sapi sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
And Sapi tries to counter it with a takedown but Libat pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Sapi shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Libat as he jumps to the side.
Higanti Libat has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wala Sapi.
Libat tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sapi swivels and escapes.
Libat slaps away a takedown attempt from Sapi, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Libat is looking to counter with a body kick.
Libat looks for the body kick but Sapi saw that one coming.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Libat shoots in for a takedown but Sapi shows good takedown defense.
Libat shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Sapi decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Libat's guard.
Sapi slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Libat controlling the position.

Libat wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sapi engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Libat shoots in for a takedown but Sapi shows good takedown defense.
Despite the aggression on Sapi's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Libat shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sapi defends it nicely.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
No luck for Libat with that takedown attempt.
Sapi is trying to counter with his kicks.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Wala Sapi dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Sapi shoots and misses
and Libat counters with a body kick that stops Sapi in his tracks momentarily.

Libat changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sapi looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Sapi is being controlled here.
Sapi wants to control but Libat postures up.
Sapi is trying to escape the position but Libat is controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sapi can't do much from the bottom here.
Sapi is trying to get back to half guard.

Sapi is not content to let Libat control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A bit of a lull in the action here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Sapi shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Libat is trying to defend but Sapi finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Sapi controlling the action here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Libat controlling the position well.
Libat is looking for a sweep. Sapi is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Sapi looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Libat blocking the ground and pound attempt from Sapi.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Sapi gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Libat to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Sapi is adopting a defensive guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sapi has momentary wrist control but Libat slips an elbow through the middle.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Higanti Libat dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Sapi tries for a takedown but Libat sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Sapi closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Libat's guard.
Wala Sapi has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sapi throwing strikes from guard but Libat blocks nicely.
Sapi is fighting to break Libat's control of his arms but Libat is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sapi controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Sapi won't allow Libat to sweep him here.
Sapi being controlled here momentarily.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Sapi sitting in guard here, content to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Libat keeping moving, preventing Sapi from controlling successfully.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Sapi gets the takedown into side control.
Sapi laying and praying for a moment but Libat takes advantage and regains half guard.
Libat tries to get to full guard but Sapi has control of the leg.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Libat trying to hold on to Sapi's head to control him but Sapi postures up.
Libat is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Libat trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Sapi looking to control and managing it successfully.
Libat wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Sapi.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Wala Sapi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Sapi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
