PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight kickboxing rules bout between Jackie Chung (ranked 5081 p4p, 584 weight class) and Aleki Veainu (ranked 215 p4p, 44 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jackie Chung!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Aleki Veainu!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, John Mangel and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chung keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Chung tries to clinch but Veainu moves away
and Veainu cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

It looks like Jackie Chung has been cut.
Chung tries to close the distance and clinch but Veainu swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Veainu looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Chung scores with a sloppy right hand. Veainu should have avoided that one.
Chung connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Jackie Chung seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Veainu takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Chung thumps Veainu with a low kick.
Chung throws a shot to the body.
Chung lands with a straight right. Veainu didn't see that one coming.
A head kick from Chung lands but Veainu takes it in his stride.
Chung lunges at Veainu with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Veainu's hand.
Chung throws a leg kick which misses Veainu's front leg but catches the back leg as Veainu tries to avoid it.
A nice inside leg kick there by Chung. That's going to slow Veainu down.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fighters circle momentarily. Chung darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Chung thumps Veainu with a low kick.
Veainu staying out of range there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Chung throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Veainu now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Chung with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Chung closes the distance but Veainu moves to the side
and Veainu makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Chung throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Chung scores with a decent looking hook.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Chung. Veainu shrugs it off though.
We've been informed that Veainu has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
A cross from Chung lands.
Veainu swats away the attempt to clinch by Chung.
Veainu swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Aleki Veainu has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Veainu chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Chung can pounce on him.
Chung throws a one two combo.
Chung digs a good hook to Veainu's body.
Chung cracks Veainu with a good jab.
Veainu avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Veainu throws out a counter right but Chung avoids it with no problem.
Chung seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Chung tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Chung takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A cross from Chung lands.
Chung misses with a body punch
and Veainu counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Chung is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Chung throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Veainu staying out of range there.
Veainu doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Chung lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Chung lands a jab.
Chung tries to clinch there but Veainu circles away.
Chung works over Veainu's head and body with a nice combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Veainu swats away the attempt to clinch by Chung.

Veainu takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
The fighters circle momentarily. Chung darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Chung paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Chung is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Chung tries to clinch but Veainu moves out of range.
Veainu let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Jab, jab by Chung - just one landing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Chung lands a jab to the nose.
Chung scores with a jab to the head.
Chung wants to clinch up but Veainu keeps it at a distance.
A slapping leg kick lands for Chung.
Chung lands a nice hook to Veainu's body. Veainu takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The fight stays on the outside here - Chung looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jackie Chung showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Chung has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
