PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Chong Jr (ranked 1125 p4p, 1006 weight class) and Elix Juarez (ranked 155 p4p, 138 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tommy Chong Jr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Elix Juarez!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Juarez gets caught flat footed, as Chong Jr shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Chong Jr pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Juarez is keeping the position for now.
Chong Jr trying to control but Juarez is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Juarez is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Juarez looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chong Jr moves into full guard.

Chong Jr has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Juarez has passed into side control.

Juarez tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Juarez has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Chong Jr can't do much from the bottom here.
Chong Jr definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Juarez wants to control but Chong Jr is keeping him busy.

Chong Jr is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Juarez is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Chong Jr will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Juarez goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Chong Jr has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Juarez but great work by Chong Jr.

Chong Jr thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Chong Jr wants to lay and pray for a moment but Juarez keeps working.

Chong Jr wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Juarez, who protects the arm well.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Chong Jr is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Juarez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Chong Jr swings around for an armbar but Juarez sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Chong Jr's guard.

Chong Jr controls Juarez momentarily but Juarez frees himself.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tommy Chong Jr will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Juarez drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

so Juarez counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Juarez advances to half guard.

Juarez is looking for a kimura here.
Chong Jr wants to control but Juarez is keeping busy.

Elix Juarez has got the better of the ground game so far.

Juarez trying to control the position from guard on top but Chong Jr is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Chong Jr has his foot on Juarez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Juarez works his way back into a safe position though.

Chong Jr working for submissions but it's allowed Juarez to get to half guard.
Chong Jr is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Juarez is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Chong Jr defends it well.
Chong Jr is not content to let Juarez control the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Juarez might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Chong Jr haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Chong Jr won't allow Juarez to pass to mount.

Juarez seems to be looking for submissions.
Chong Jr gets back to full guard.
Chong Jr controls Juarez momentarily but Juarez frees himself.
Juarez has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Elix Juarez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Chong Jr throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Juarez is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Chong Jr drives through with a takedown into Juarez's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Chong Jr is just content to waste time from the top position. Juarez takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Juarez is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Chong Jr not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Juarez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Chong Jr has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Juarez has managed to get both his arms back between Chong Jr's legs - danger averted.

Chong Jr has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Juarez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Chong Jr closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Juarez to the mat! Juarez manages to get full guard.
Juarez lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Juarez pushes down on Chong Jr's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Chong Jr is looking to control Juarez's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Chong Jr avoid being mounted?

Tommy Chong Jr showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Chong Jr has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
