PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Simon Cross (ranked 3545 p4p, 2489 weight class) and Bruce Banner (ranked 358 p4p, 85 weight class). Cross's entrance music is Irregular God. A fine choice. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Simon Cross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bruce Banner!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Glass and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cross shoots in looking for a takedown. Banner tries to sprawl out of it but Cross keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Banner manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Nice defenses there by Cross.
Cross is trying hard to land a takedown here. Banner sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Banner misses with an uppercut. Cross saw that one coming.
Banner has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Banner throws a hook to the side of Cross's head but Cross sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Banner closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Cross's guard.
Cross wants to sweep but no luck.
Banner must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Cross is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Banner defends well.

Cross has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Banner can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Banner would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cross has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Banner is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Cross.

Banner has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Cross fails with the takedown.

Banner bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cross is defended easily by Banner.
Cross looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Cross shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Banner manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Cross won't allow Banner to get back to his feet.

Cross is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Banner is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Banner has escaped and now he's on top!

Banner stands up from Cross's guard - Banner perhaps looking for a knockout.

Cross shoots in and bounces Banner off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Banner pushes Cross off and scrambles back to his feet.
Cross shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Banner! But no joy.
Cross will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Cross takes one to the chin there.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Cross defending well as Banner loads up on a big left hand.
Cross shoots in looking for a takedown but Banner manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cross's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Cross closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Banner quickly recovers to half guard.

Cross seems to be looking for submissions.
Banner wants to get back to his feet.

Cross tries to free his leg and advance position but Banner is retaining full guard.

Cross drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Banner manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cross has Banner in his guard.


Cross looking for a guillotine here but Banner defends easily.

Cross is looking for a triangle but Banner pushes his legs off easily.

Cross working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Banner doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Banner manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Cross has his foot on Banner's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Banner works his way back into a safe position though.

Cross is working an open guard so Banner takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Cross gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Banner.

Cross drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Banner is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Cross presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Banner breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Cross tries to sprawl but Banner drives through with a takedown into half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Bruce Banner dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

No luck with that takedown attempt from Cross.
A looping hook to the body misses from Banner. Cross does a little dance to reset his feet.
Banner lands a jab.
Cross takes one on the button.
That kick from Banner tenderised Cross's leg. Cross is trying to keep his angry face on.
Banner throws a nice inside leg kick.
Cross's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Banner connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Cross scrambles back to his feet.
Cross fails to land the takedown.
Cross takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Cross staying out of range there.
Banner bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Cross's head.
Banner misses the jab.
Cross fails with a takedown attempt.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cross displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Banner throws out the jab.

Cross drives through with a takedown into Banner's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Cross wants to pass the guard but Banner is keeping the position.

Banner pushes Cross off and gets back to his feet.
Cross takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Bruce Banner seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Cross tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Banner defends well and Cross ends up having to push Banner into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Banner pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Cross takes a jab right on the kisser.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cross.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cross shoots in for a takedown but Banner shows good takedown defense.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cross shoots for a takedown but Banner saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Cross shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Cross was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Banner throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Banner connects with a right hand. Cross shakes it off.
Banner scores with a sloppy right hand. Cross should have avoided that one.
Cross takes one to the chin there.
Banner lunges at Cross with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Cross's hand.
Banner stuffs the takedown attempt from Cross. Cross gets slowly back to his feet.
Banner cracks Cross with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Cross throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Banner tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Cross is in Banner's guard.

Banner has his feet on Cross's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Banner lands with a kick to the ribs.
Cross throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Banner's waist but Banner gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cross off to one side.
Cross shoots in but Banner avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Cross is sent reeling backwards by a solid uppercut. He barely regains his balance and Banner moves in for the kill throwing a continuous barrage of punches that force the ref to step in.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Bruce Banner!
