PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Smith (ranked 4194 p4p, 3123 weight class) and Timmy Cosmo (ranked 0 p4p, 182 weight class). John Smith has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Timmy Cosmo!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Nard Betker and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Smith fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Cosmo.
Cosmo fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Smith lands a nice looking body kick.
A slapping body kick lands there for Smith.

Cosmo closes the distance and clinches.
Cosmo jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Smith walks away with a smile on his face. Cosmo gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Cosmo takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Smith dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Cosmo. That did some damage!
Smith throws a front kick that sends Cosmo stumbling back into the cage.
Smith fakes the leg kick and cracks Cosmo in the body.
Smith throws a nice outside leg kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Crunch! Smith slams his shin into Cosmo's torso.
Cosmo fails with a takedown attempt.
John Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Timmy Cosmo.

Smith gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Cosmo to score an easy takedown into full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cosmo seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Smith working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Cosmo.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Cosmo controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Cosmo postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Smith wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Cosmo manages to pass to side control.
Cosmo is looking to advance position but Smith won't allow it.
Cosmo thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Smith's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith wants to get back to his feet.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Cosmo in particular looking to stall.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Cosmo works his way into side control.
Cosmo staying calm.
Let's hope that Cosmo has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Smith feints and then cracks Cosmo's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Cosmo down.
Both fighters circling a little - Smith finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Smith lands a nice looking kick to the body. Cosmo takes a step back to recover.
A nice leg kick lands there from Smith.
Smith looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Cosmo has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Smith.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
A chopping leg kick lands by Smith.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

John Smith dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

A leg kick checked by Cosmo.
Cosmo fails with a takedown attempt.
Cosmo has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Smith.
Smith keeps Cosmo at a distance using the push kick.
Good leg kick by Smith.
Smith lands a leg kick that knocks Cosmo off balance momentarily.
Smith moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Smith lands a front kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith connects with an inside leg kick.
Cosmo chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Smith can pounce on him.
Cosmo takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
We've been informed that Cosmo has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Smith is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Cosmo can do to turn this around?
Cosmo blocks a leg kick.
Smith with the inside leg kick.
A low kick lands for Smith.

Cosmo moves into the clinch successfully.
Smith is looking to break free of the clinch but Cosmo has double underhooks.

Cosmo has Smith pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Cosmo pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Smith tumbling to the mat - Cosmo dives into Smith's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cosmo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Cosmo is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Smith has momentary wrist control but Cosmo slips an elbow through the middle.
Cosmo chips away with some ground and pound.
Cosmo advances to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cosmo works his way into side control.

Cosmo has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Smith throws a leg kick that is checked

and Cosmo counters with a nice double leg into side control. Smith won't be happy with that.
Cosmo slows the pace down.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cosmo looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Smith is avoiding damage well.
Cosmo controls the position.
Cosmo advances to mount.
Cosmo sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Timmy Cosmo has got the better of the ground game so far.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that John Smith will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Cosmo gets a takedown into half guard.
Cosmo perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Cosmo has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Smith defend it? Cosmo steps over the head and cranks it - Smith is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Cosmo!
