PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gakus Amiga (ranked 23709 p4p, 23693 weight class) and Helen Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 43 - 62 - 6, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gakus Amiga! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 45 - 60 - 9, fighting out of Las Vegas, Helen Salvacion! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Amiga shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Salvacion as he avoids it easily. Salvacion follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land. Amiga has a takedown stuffed. Salvacion follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land. Salvacion shoots in looking for a takedown. Amiga tries to sprawl out of it but Salvacion keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Amiga manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Amiga appears to be looking for a big counter.
 That's one minute gone in the round. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Amiga regains half guard, as Salvacion was trying to land strikes. Amiga is looking for a sweep. Salvacion is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Well, if Salvacion is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight� I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza� Yum. Can't wait.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Amiga controlling the position for now. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Amiga is pressing down on Salvacion's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Salvacion controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
 The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Salvacion misses with the body kick and Amiga counters with a good, hard body kick but Salvacion shrugs it off. Salvacion stuffs the takedown attempt from Amiga. Amiga gets slowly back to his feet. Salvacion thinks about the counter body kick. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gakus Amiga. That's going to take a lot out of him.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Salvacion tries for a takedown but Amiga sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Amiga feinted with a counter takedown.
Amiga closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Salvacion to the mat! Salvacion manages to get full guard. Salvacion keeping moving, preventing Amiga from controlling successfully. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Salvacion can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Amiga controls the pace. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Gakus Amiga will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Amiga throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Salvacion's waist but Salvacion gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Amiga off to one side. Salvacion thinks about the counter body kick. Salvacion leaves Amiga with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Salvacion manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Amiga on his heels. He'll look to pass Amiga's guard now, I'm sure. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Amiga seems keen to control Salvacion's posture.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Amiga is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Salvacion's corner is telling him to maintain position. Salvacion won't allow Amiga to sweep him here. Amiga is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Salvacion controls from within his opponent's guard. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Salvacion steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gakus Amiga. That's going to take a lot out of him. No luck for Salvacion with that takedown attempt. Amiga throws a quick counter kick to the body but Salvacion avoids it.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Salvacion shoots in for a takedown but Amiga shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. It appears Amiga was looking to counter with a kick there.
Salvacion drives through with a takedown into Amiga's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Salvacion looking to control the position here, rather than advance. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Salvacion's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Amiga has control of Salvacion's left arm, preventing Salvacion from doing any damage. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Helen Salvacion showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Salvacion working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Amiga. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Amiga won't allow Salvacion to sweep him here. Salvacion seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

 That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Amiga stuffs the takedown. And Amiga counters with a quick kick to the body but Salvacion blocks it. Gakus Amiga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Helen Salvacion. Amiga shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Salvacion counters with an inside leg kick.
Salvacion closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Amiga's guard. Salvacion with a flurry of punches that miss. Amiga controls Salvacion momentarily but Salvacion frees himself.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Salvacion being controlled here momentarily. Salvacion showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Amiga is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Amiga is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Amiga being controlled here, momentarily.
 The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Amiga fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Salvacion thinks about the counter body kick.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Helen Salvacion. Well Salvacion has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
