PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jack Hakansson (ranked 1568 p4p, 1521 weight class) and Yoji Anjo Anjo (ranked 215 p4p, 210 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Jack Hakansson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 36 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yoji Anjo Anjo!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Albert Achterberg and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Anjo or perhaps it was just good defense by Hakansson, which made it look bad.
A counter left hand to the body from Hakansson misses its target.
A big left from Hakansson misses.
Anjo steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Hakansson.
Anjo takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
A right-left combo lands from Hakansson.

Anjo dives in and scores a takedown into Hakansson's guard.
Anjo stands and throws Hakansson's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Anjo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Anjo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Anjo decides to stand back up. Anjo steps back and let's Hakansson get back to his feet.

Anjo is trying to control. Hakansson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Hakansson wants to control but Anjo is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Hakansson tries to roll over but Anjo keeps him under control.

Anjo is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hakansson defends it well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hakansson wants to control but Anjo is keeping busy.

Anjo is controlling the pace.
Hakansson is looking to control Anjo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hakansson avoid being mounted?
Anjo is taking a breather. Hakansson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Anjo is keen to just control but Hakansson is a slippery customer.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Anjo darts in and clinches Hakansson up against the cage.

Anjo is pushing Hakansson up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Anjo tries to pull guard but Hakansson won't allow it.

Anjo manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Anjo seems keen to control Hakansson's posture.

Hakansson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Anjo is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Hakansson is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Anjo had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hakansson defends it easily.

Anjo is looking for a triangle but Hakansson pushes his legs off easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Yoji Anjo Anjo dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Hakansson throws a body punch but Anjo moves out of range.
Anjo avoids a punch combination nicely.
Anjo has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Anjo shoots for a takedown but Hakansson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

and Anjo counters by clinching up.
Hakansson is trying to push Anjo away but Anjo has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Hakansson is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Anjo tries to pull guard but Hakansson forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Anjo jumps guard but Hakansson turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Jack Hakansson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yoji Anjo Anjo.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hakansson wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Anjo has clasped his hands together around Hakansson's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Hakansson is trying to control Anjo's posture but Anjo avoids it.

Anjo goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Hakansson rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Anjo's guard! Nice work there by Hakansson!

Hakansson is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Anjo will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Anjo wants to control but Hakansson postures up.
Anjo parries the strikes from Hakansson easily there. Hakansson is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Anjo to escape.
Anjo tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Hakansson easily slips into full mount!
Anjo is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Hakansson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Anjo regains half guard.

Hakansson is trying to work for a kimura but Anjo is defending well.
Still in half guard, Hakansson seems content to control.
Anjo looks like he's trying to stand up.
Hakansson looks to land a strike but Anjo avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Hakansson tries to free his leg and advance position but Anjo is retaining full guard.

Hakansson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Anjo wants to get back to full guard.
Anjo gets full guard.
Hakansson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Anjo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hakansson manages to get himself to full guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jack Hakansson will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
