Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 11 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alexander Rusev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 15 - 22 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ronaldo Gomes! The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Radbod Blank and Patrick Alders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gomes fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Gomes looking to score a takedown here. Rusev is defending well but Gomes drives through and ends up in Rusev's guard. Gomes forces his way into half guard. Rusev trying to control here.
Gomes seems to be working for a kimura but Rusev defends the submission attempt. Gomes is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Rusev has managed to free his arm - good work. That's one minute gone in the round. Rusev gets full guard. Gomes looking to pass the guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rusev pulls Gomes in close to prevent any damage. Gomes postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Rusev is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gomes, into his guard.
Gomes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rusev doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rusev manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Rusev wants to stand but Gomes has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Gomes has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rusev can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Rusev is in close to Gomes's body, working some short punches and elbows.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rusev wants to stand but Gomes is controlling his posture from full guard. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Rusev's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Rusev scoring with some ground and pound. Rusev might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Rusev avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Gomes lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Rusev is pulling down on Gomes's head. It's preventing any offense from Gomes, at least for the moment. Gomes drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rusev manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gomes has Rusev in his guard. Rusev wanted to stand there but Gomes had control of the position.

Gomes is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rusev defends well. Rusev with a nice head shot there. Rusev preventing the sweep. Gomes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rusev gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Rusev working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Gomes's head.
Gomes is rocked! Rusev wants to control from the top but Gomes keeps moving. Gomes is still in real trouble! Can Rusev finish him? Rusev pushing down on Gomes's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Rusev lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Gomes! More strikes land and this one is all over! Rusev jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
