Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tayaen Porfirigo (ranked 1479 p4p, 1961 weight class) and Paul Herrera (ranked 208 p4p, 269 weight class). This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 35 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tayaen Porfirigo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Paul Herrera!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Daniel Blasius and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Herrera tries to score a power double leg takedown but Porfirigo sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Herrera somewhat.
Herrera misses with a takedown attempt - Porfirigo sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Porfirigo was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Porfirigo scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Porfirigo is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Porfirigo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Porfirigo decides to stand and escape the position.
Herrera darts in looking for a takedown but Porfirigo gets double underhooks and turns Herrera into the cage.
Tayaen Porfirigo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Herrera.
Herrera has his takedown stuffed
and Porfirigo makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Herrera misses with a wild combination.

Porfirigo fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Herrera to the ground. Porfirigo is now in Herrera's guard.

Herrera manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Porfirigo is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Herrera gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Porfirigo breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Herrera tries to clinch up.
Herrera fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Porfirigo tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Herrera dives in for a single leg takedown but Porfirigo sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Herrera fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Herrera looks winded!
Herrera shoots in but no luck this time.
Herrera fails with the takedown.

Porfirigo moves into the clinch.

Porfirigo gets control of Herrera's arms and successfully pulls guard. Porfirigo will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Herrera must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Porfirigo pulls Herrera in close to prevent any damage.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Porfirigo manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Porfirigo jumps into guard, dragging Herrera to the mat.
Herrera wants to control from the top but Porfirigo keeps moving.

Herrera gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Herrera shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Porfirigo sprawls well. Porfirigo wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Herrera gets slowly back to his feet.
Herrera throws a series of punches but Porfirigo moves out of range.
Herrera throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Porfirigo's waist but Porfirigo gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Herrera off to one side.

Herrera closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Porfirigo's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Porfirigo is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Porfirigo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Herrera doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Herrera manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Herrera drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Porfirigo dives on top into guard.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Herrera tries for a takedown but Porfirigo circles away easily

and Porfirigo counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Porfirigo ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Porfirigo no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Herrera gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Herrera tries to clinch up but Porfirigo circles away and keeps his distance.

Herrera lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Herrera is defended easily by Porfirigo.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Porfirigo counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Porfirigo content to control rather than advance.
Herrera gets full guard.

Porfirigo is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Porfirigo throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Herrera works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Porfirigo is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Porfirigo is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Herrera can do to turn this around?

Porfirigo drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Herrera dives on top into guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Herrera is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Porfirigo has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Herrera off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Herrera moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

No joy there for Herrera, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
An attempted straight right counter from Porfirigo misses the target.
Herrera fails with an attempt to clinch.

Herrera gets tackled into the cage by Porfirigo. Porfirigo maintains the clinch.
Herrera's coach down at MMA Training and Sparring Buddies was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Herrera's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Porfirigo goes for a takedown attempt but Herrera pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Herrera misses with a wild body shot.
Herrera looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Tayaen Porfirigo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Herrera.
Herrera is breathing heavily.
Porfirigo swats away the attempt to clinch by Herrera.

Herrera bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Porfirigo sneaks out the side door and pushes Herrera away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Porfirigo leaves Herrera with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Herrera takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Herrera shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Porfirigo defends it nicely.
Herrera misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Porfirigo swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Tayaen Porfirigo dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Herrera shoots and misses
and Porfirigo counters with a three punch combo that has Herrera backing up. Herrera nods at Porfirigo to acknowledge the strikes.
Paul Herrera seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Herrera shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Porfirigo counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Herrera avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Porfirigo.
Porfirigo wants to take a breather but Herrera is having none of it.
Porfirigo is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Porfirigo not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Herrera takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Porfirigo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Porfirigo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Herrera is just riding it out for now. Porfirigo eventually gives up the hold.

Porfirigo is working for a submission of some sort.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Porfirigo moves into full mount! Herrera won't be happy about that!

Herrera defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Porfirigo.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Herrera can't escape the position.
Porfirigo punching from mount but Herrera doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Herrera wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Porfirigo has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Herrera has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Herrera rolls, trying to escape but Porfirigo keeps control of the position.

Porfirigo scores with punches from the back.
Porfirigo tries to get the hooks in deep but Herrera pushed the leg off.

Porfirigo is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Herrera knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Herrera for a finish.
Herrera is covering up but some of the strikes from Porfirigo are getting through and doing damage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Porfirigo lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Paul Herrera has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Tayaen Porfirigo is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Porfirigo is looking for the choke from the back position but Herrera is controlling his hands well.

Tayaen Porfirigo showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Porfirigo has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
