PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Arthur Pugsley (ranked 1847 p4p, 1887 weight class) and Keir Toal (ranked 186 p4p, 190 weight class). Toal has chosen Irish Pub Song as his entrance music. Keir Toal struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 146.0lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Arthur Pugsley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Keir Toal!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Nard Betker and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Toal connects with a body shot.
Pugsley looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Toal displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Pugsley.
Toal throws a lazy body kick

and Pugsley counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Toal kicks off Pugsley and gets to his feet.
Pugsley moves away from the strike by Toal.
Pugsley changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Toal misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Pugsley.
Pugsley drops down looking for a counter takedown but Toal sprawls and moves away.
Toal connects with a body shot that sends Pugsley's belly button to the back.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A jab from Toal finds it's way through Pugsley's defenses.

Pugsley moves into range and clinches up with Toal.
Toal misses with a punch to the body.
Toal lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Toal works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Toal is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Pugsley can't fight it off and eventually Toal manages to take the fight to the floor. Pugsley looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Pugsley is looking for a triangle but Toal pushes his legs off easily.

Pugsley has his foot on Toal's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Toal works his way back into a safe position though.
Pugsley can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Toal controls the pace.

Pugsley is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Toal is aware though and is defending well.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Toal working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Pugsley had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Toal defends it easily.
Toal wants to control from the top but Pugsley keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Keir Toal seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Toal closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Pugsley to the mat! Pugsley manages to get full guard.

Pugsley escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Toal gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Pugsley had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Toal defends it easily.

Toal stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pugsley swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Toal's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Pugsley is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Toal defends well.

Toal has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Pugsley wants to control but Toal is keeping busy.

Pugsley working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Toal doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Toal manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Toal is looking to take a break and control but Pugsley is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Toal working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Pugsley has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Toal is working away from the top position though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Keir Toal showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Toal lands a nice hook to Pugsley's body. Pugsley takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

and Toal makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Pugsley takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Pugsley misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Toal jabs Pugsley right on the nose. Pugsley blinks but takes it well.

Toal drives through with a takedown into Pugsley's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Pugsley is looking to cinch up a triangle. Toal throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Pugsley's body to avoid the submission. Pugsley has instead reached around Toal's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Pugsley arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:19 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Arthur Pugsley!
Keir Toal was interviewed post fight and said 'I will be better!'.
