PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Minatay Mibangon (ranked 23693 p4p, 23645 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 41 - 61 - 10, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minatay Mibangon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 54 - 49 - 10, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Mibangon closes the distance and clinches up with Sapi, looking for a takedown. Mibangon pushes Sapi against the cage but Sapi circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Sapi let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Mibangon tries to close the distance and clinch but Sapi swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Sapi replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Mibangon blocks it well.

Mibangon scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Sapi isn't going anywhere.
Mibangon is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sapi tries to buck Mibangon off but Mibangon is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sapi wants to control but Mibangon postures up.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Sapi shoots in looking for a takedown. Mibangon tries to sprawl out of it but Sapi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mibangon manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Mibangon drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
What's Sapi going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
Sapi is trying to control Mibangon's posture but Mibangon avoids it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sapi trying to remain calm as Mibangon controls from the top position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Minatay Mibangon dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mibangon.
Sapi follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Sapi closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sapi slows the pace down in half guard.
Mibangon blocking the ground and pound attempt from Sapi.

Sapi controlling the pace.
Sapi's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Mibangon is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mibangon wants to control but Sapi is keeping busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Mibangon closes the distance and clinches up with Sapi, looking for a takedown. Mibangon pushes Sapi against the cage but Sapi circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Mibangon gets a takedown into half guard.
Sapi moves into full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mibangon is fighting to break Sapi's control of his arms but Sapi is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Sapi is continuing to stall.
Mibangon slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sapi is adopting a defensive guard.
Mibangon is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sapi can do to turn this around?
Mibangon seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sapi is adopting a defensive guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Wala Sapi will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Sapi changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mibangon tries to avoid it but Sapi manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mibangon to the ground. Mibangon escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Mibangon throws a quick counter kick to the body but Sapi avoids it.
Minatay Mibangon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wala Sapi.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mibangon shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sapi napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Mibangon is staying tight to Sapi's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Minatay Mibangon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mibangon seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Sapi for as long as he can get away with.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sapi is trying to improve his position.
I wouldn't like to be where Sapi is right now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mibangon decides to stand back up. Mibangon steps back and let's Sapi get back to his feet.
Sapi fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Sapi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mibangon pinned against the cage. Mibangon gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Sapi darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Mibangon is positioning himself well to prevent Sapi advancing to mount.

And that's the end of the fight!
Minatay Mibangon showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Mibangon has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
