PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nero Porto (ranked 1056 p4p, 1465 weight class) and James Howlett (ranked 116 p4p, 146 weight class). Porto comes to the cage accompanied by Ayumi Nakamura - Kaze Ni Nare. Howlett has chosen Indestructible as his entrance music. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nero Porto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Howlett!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Radbod Blank and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab lands there for Porto.
Porto connects with a single shot there.
Howlett tries for a takedown but Porto sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Porto is looking to counter punch.
Howlett tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Porto swivels and escapes.
Nice uppercut lands for Porto. That snapped Howlett's head back.
Howlett looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Nero Porto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Howlett.
Howlett keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Porto just misses with a punch to the body.
Howlett on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Porto throws out a powerful jab.
Howlett shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Porto as he jumps to the side.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Porto fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Howlett on the side of the head.

James Howlett seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Porto misses with a straight right.
Howlett tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Porto scores with the left hand. Howlett knows he should have avoided that one.

and Howlett counters with a takedown into side control.
Porto tries to bench press Howlett off him but Howlett keeps the position.
Porto is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Howlett's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Howlett wants to take a breather but Porto is having none of it.

Porto is not content to let Howlett control the position.

Howlett is working for a kimura but Porto is defending it quite comfortably.

Porto has his foot on Howlett's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Howlett works his way back into a safe position though.
Porto bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Howlett's guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Porto stands up over Howlett, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Porto scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Porto stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Howlett swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Howlett wants to sweep here but Porto controlling him for the moment.
Porto has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Porto throws a big right hand that misses.
Porto slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Porto wants to lay and pray for a moment but Howlett keeps working.

Porto is trying to get an arm triangle but Howlett is defending well.

Porto is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Howlett knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Porto working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Porto tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Porto has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Howlett shoots and misses
and Porto counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Porto throws an overhand right that lands on Howlett's shoulder, as Howlett tries to avoid the shot.
Howlett with the counter takedown but Porto avoids it easily.
James Howlett is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Howlett has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Howlett there as he acknowledges the shot.
Nero Porto is winning the standup battle so far.
Porto swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Porto lands with a shot to the body.
Porto connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Howlett shoots and misses
and Porto counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Porto lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Howlett uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Porto.
Porto throws a jab when Howlett was well out of range.
The crowd cheers as Porto lands an impressive looking overhand right. Howlett doesn't seem phased though.

Porto stuffs the takedown.
Nero Porto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Howlett.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Porto scores with a sloppy right hand. Howlett should have avoided that one.
Howlett ducks right into an uppercut from Porto.

Porto looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Howlett puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Howlett got a little sloppy there for a moment and Porto has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Howlett has managed to get both his arms back between Porto's legs - danger averted.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Howlett manages to work his way to half guard, despite Porto's best efforts.
Porto is nestled in close to Howlett, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Porto is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Howlett rolls with it to try and escape but Porto cranks on the arm and Howlett is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Nero Porto!
A relieved looking Nero Porto thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
