PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between TJ King (ranked 4063 p4p, 4051 weight class) and Gerardo Mccoy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, TJ King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gerardo Mccoy!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Steve Montenegro and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mccoy closes this distance looking for a takedown but King circles away.

King moves into the clinch successfully.

King breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
King tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Mccoy gets caught flat footed, as King shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
King is stalling in the full guard.

King gets to his feet. Mccoy looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
King really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

King moves into the clinch.

Mccoy escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mccoy fails with a takedown attempt.

Mccoy closes the distance and clinches up with King, looking for a takedown. Mccoy pushes King against the cage but King circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
TJ King has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gerardo Mccoy.

King closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
King content to slow the pace in the clinch.
King lands a nice elbow.

King successfully pulls guard.
King is pulling down on Mccoy's head. It's preventing any offense from Mccoy, at least for the moment.

King manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mccoy manages to get himself to full guard.

Mccoy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with King. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. King lands a nice short elbow.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

King is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Mccoy can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
King tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mccoy wants to clinch.
Mccoy throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around King's waist but King gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mccoy off to one side.

Mccoy is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

King's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

As Mccoy tries to get set, King tries to push him back and clinch up but Mccoy manages to avoid the attempt.
TJ King is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

King tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mccoy swivels and escapes.
Mccoy is clearly trying to counter these attacks from King with a body shot.

King has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mccoy is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Mccoy is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. King is defending well for now.

A frustrated look appears on Mccoy's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Mccoy wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

King breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
No luck for Mccoy with that takedown attempt.

Mccoy is wriggling around but King manages to pass to half guard.
Mccoy is breathing heavily.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with King in particular looking to stall.
King lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

King works his way into side control.
King will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

King is trying to get an arm triangle but Mccoy is defending well.
King in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
TJ King overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mccoy tries to improve position but can't.

King is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Mccoy is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
King is staying tight to Mccoy's torso, preventing him from escaping.
King has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

King stands up.
King is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mccoy can do to turn this around?
Horrible takedown attempt by King or perhaps it was just good defense by Mccoy, which made it look bad.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

King gets a double leg takedown into Mccoy's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mccoy is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and King defends well.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

King sets himself, and Mccoy steps forward looking for the clinch! King avoids it this time.

King feints and as Mccoy raises his hands in defense, King changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
King pushes down on Mccoy's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Mccoy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Mccoy is looking to control King's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mccoy avoid being mounted?

King stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Mccoy fails with a takedown attempt.

Mccoy is wriggling around but King manages to pass to half guard.

King content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

King decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

King is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Mccoy can't fight it off and eventually King manages to take the fight to the floor. Mccoy looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
King is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Mccoy is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
King connects with a couple of short punches.
King content to stall in guard here.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

King rushes Mccoy and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
King lands with a right to the head.
King blocking some punches.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
King jumps guard but Mccoy stands there with King around his waist. King gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Mccoy tries for a takedown but King manages to get underhooks.

And that's the end of the fight!
TJ King showed his dominance in that final round.
Well King has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
