PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Moses Grant (ranked 4092 p4p, 4576 weight class) and Roy Wu (ranked 152 p4p, 172 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Moses Grant!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Roy Wu!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wu drives through and clinches with Grant against the cage.
Grant jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Wu walks away with a smile on his face. Grant gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Grant changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wu tries to avoid it but Grant manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wu to the ground. Wu escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Wu shoots in but Grant avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Wu motions for Grant to come forward. Wu throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Wu leaves Grant with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Moses Grant. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wu changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Grant tries to avoid it but Wu manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Grant to the ground. Grant escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Wu shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Grant has a closed guard, preventing Wu from standing up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Grant keeping full guard, as Wu tries to pass.
Grant utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Wu has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Grant is proving hard to escape from.

Grant has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wu can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Wu swings for the body but Grant moves out of range.
Grant lands with a cross.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Wu fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Grant sprawls well initially but Wu persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Grant on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Wu wants to control but Grant is keeping him busy.
Wu trying to control the pace.
Wu wants to stand but Grant has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Grant moves into full guard.
Grant being controlled here, momentarily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
It looks like Wu might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Wu slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Wu missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Wu throws a nice looking combination but Grant bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Grant wants to clinch.
Grant shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Wu pinned against the cage. Wu gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wu takes a swing at Grant's ribcage but misses.
Wu tries for a takedown but Grant circles away easily

and Grant holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Roy Wu dominated that round.
That's time! Grant's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Wu tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Grant manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Wu throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Wu avoids a kick to the body.
Wu tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Grant fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Wu, pushing him back against the cage.
Grant wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Grant has Wu pressed against the cage.
Wu is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Wu gets a trip takedown into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Grant manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Wu keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Wu will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Grant up against the cage.

Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Wu's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Grant jumps guard but Wu turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Grant manages to break the clinch.
Wu is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Wu throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Grant gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Wu breaks the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wu fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Grant shoots for a takedown but Wu saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Wu moves into range and clinches up with Grant.
Grant is trying to push Wu away but Wu has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Grant with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Wu is looking for a takedown.
Grant tries to pull guard but Wu won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Moses Grant. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Wu breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Grant gets caught flat footed, as Wu shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Grant kicks Wu off and gets to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Wu circles away from the clinch attempt.

Wu closes the distance and clinches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wu gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Grant.

Grant manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Wu lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Wu wants to control from the top but Grant keeps moving.
Wu slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Wu lands a couple of digs.
Grant lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Moses Grant will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Grant goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Wu rushes Grant and presses him up against the cage.
Wu throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Wu tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Grant avoids it.

Wu turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Wu cracks Grant with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Grant is trying to get back to half guard.
Wu controls the position.
Wu trying to control the action but Grant is working from the bottom.
Wu tries to stand but Grant is controlling his head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wu in side control lands a decent elbow.
Grant is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Wu tries to stand and escape but Grant is controlling the position.

Grant has one foot on Wu's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Grant dives in for a single leg takedown but Wu sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Wu breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Grant tries for a takedown but Wu sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Wu is looking for the big counter here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wu shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Grant as he jumps to the side.
Grant shoots in looking for a takedown but Wu manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Grant's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Moses Grant. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Wu shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Wu showed some decent athleticism there.

Wu is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Grant sees it coming and defends easily.
Grant on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Grant tries to get out of the position.
Wu lands with a punch from half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Wu keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Grant is trying to maintain the position but Wu is very close to passing his half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wu is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Wu is working for a submission of some sort.
Wu is thwarting Grant's attempts to control the position.
Wu lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Wu is taking a breather. Grant says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Grant trying to hold on to Wu's head to control him but Wu postures up.
Wu scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Well, if Wu is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Wu wants to control but Grant is keeping him busy.

And that's the end of the fight!
Roy Wu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Wu has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
