PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Maman Suraman (ranked 1711 p4p, 2437 weight class) and Kazhymukan Manaitpasov (ranked 238 p4p, 317 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Maman Suraman has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Maman Suraman seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Maman Suraman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Kazhymukan Manaitpasov!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Daniel Bishop and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Manaitpasov is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Suraman.
Suraman slips under a jab from Manaitpasov.
Suraman half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Manaitpasov throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Suraman sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Manaitpasov misses with a hook

and Suraman counters with a nice double leg into side control. Manaitpasov won't be happy with that.

Suraman tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Suraman has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Suraman is looking to take a break and control but Manaitpasov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Manaitpasov parries the strikes from Suraman easily there. Suraman is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Manaitpasov to escape.

Suraman darts in looking for a takedown but Manaitpasov gets double underhooks and turns Suraman into the cage.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Manaitpasov is pressed up against the cage. Suraman has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Manaitpasov down to the mat. Manaitpasov avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Manaitpasov clobbers Suraman with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Suraman tries to counter with a takedown but Manaitpasov is quick to defend against it.

Suraman closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Suraman is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Manaitpasov is trying is best to control the position here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kazhymukan Manaitpasov will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.


Suraman shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Suraman showed some decent athleticism there.

Manaitpasov is looking for a sweep. Suraman is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Manaitpasov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Suraman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Suraman is working for an americana but Manaitpasov has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Suraman was thinking about the submission.

Suraman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Manaitpasov swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Manaitpasov is pulling down on Suraman's head. It's preventing any offense from Suraman, at least for the moment.
Suraman is looking to work some ground and pound but Manaitpasov has wrist control.

That was a close second round but I would say that Maman Suraman will probably get the nod.

Suraman feints and as Manaitpasov raises his hands in defense, Suraman changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Suraman is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Manaitpasov reverses the position - he's now on top in Suraman's guard.

Suraman can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Manaitpasov controls the pace.

Suraman has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Manaitpasov is working away from the top position though.

Manaitpasov has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Suraman to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Manaitpasov is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Suraman pulls down on the head and he's put Manaitpasov to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:23 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Maman Suraman!
A very excited looking Maman Suraman made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
