SSG 344 Hall vs Bar PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 36 wins and 26 losses; Scott Hall! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 44 wins and 24 losses; Wilhelm Bar! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Percy O'Donnell and Don Winkell.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Bar fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Bar shoots in and bounces Hall off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Hall (0) vs (2) Bar Hall is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Hall looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bar is one step ahead there. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hall controlling the position. Hall wants to sweep here but Bar controlling him for the moment. Hall is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Hall (2) vs (2) Bar Hall is figuring out what he wants to do next. Bar felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Hall wants to pass to mount but Bar is defending the position. Hall controlling the action here. Hall trying to advance position but Bar counters by regaining guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hall stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bar swivels though and keeps the full guard. Bar is trying to control the position but Hall postures up. Hall is stalling in the full guard. Hall seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Bar for as long as he can get away with.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bar looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Hall tries to free his leg and advance position but Bar is retaining full guard. Hall looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hall's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Hall stopping the sweep attempt from Bar. Hall sitting in guard here, content to control. Hall trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Hall pushing down on Bar's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Hall takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Bar is trying to control but can't.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Hall is taking a breather. Bar says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hall uses his free foot to push down on Bar's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Bar. Score +3 for passing guard: Hall (5) vs (2) Bar
That's six minutes gone in the round. Hall fails to move to back control. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Bar has given up his back. Will we see Hall going for some submissions?

That's eight minutes gone in the round. Bar trying to control the action but Hall just sinks the hooks in. You can see the frustration on Bar's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

That's nine minutes gone in the round. Hall has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Bar tries to break free.
Hall controlling from the back. Hall continues to stall. Hall will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Bar rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Hall is taking a breather. Bar says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Hall trying to pass the guard but Bar defending well. Bar is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hall pulls his head out easily. Still in half guard, Hall seems content to control.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Bar is trying to maintain the position but Hall is very close to passing his half guard. Hall looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Hall works his foot free and advances to mount. Score +3 for passing guard: Hall (11) vs (2) Bar
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Hall takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Hall takes Bar's back. Score +3 for taking back: Hall (14) vs (2) Bar A bit of a pause in the action here. Hall controlling the positon.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. I really don't envy Bar right now.
