This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 79 wins and 53 losses; Vasiliy Kulik! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 78 wins and 77 losses; Long Wang! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Ian Loll and Gregory Folan.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Kulik moves into the clinch successfully.
Wang tries to score a body lock takedown but Kulik shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Wang stops a takedown attempt from Kulik.
Kulik has been working on his balance at KFA, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Wang. Wang changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Kulik fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Kulik clinches up with Wang and pushes him back against the cage. Wang has clasped his hands together around Kulik's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Score +4 for clean takedown past guard: Kulik (0) vs (4) Wang Kulik tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Wang wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. You can see the frustration on Kulik's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Kulik is positioning himself to get back to half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A lull in the action here.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kulik really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kulik controls the position for a moment. Wang slows the pace down.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kulik can't do much from the bottom here. Wang is staying tight to Kulik's torso, preventing him from escaping.
That's four minutes gone in the round. It looks like Wang might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Kulik is looking to regain half guard here but Wang keeps moving and retains side control. Wang is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Kulik will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Wang trying to control the position but Kulik is working away. Wang controlling the position from side mount.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Let's hope that Wang has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Kulik is looking for a sweep. Kulik is working hard here to advance position. Wang taking a breather here.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Wang is continuing to stall. You can see the frustration on Kulik's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Wang moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Kulik tries to get back to half guard but can't. Kulik seems a little lost for a moment, as Wang dominates the positioning.

That's eight minutes gone in the round. Kulik tries to bench press Wang off him but Wang keeps the position. Wang working away. Kulik trying to remain calm as Wang controls from the top position. The adventures of Wang the control monster continue. Boring. Wang looking to control but instead Kulik has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard. Wang tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kulik knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Wang is taking a breather. Kulik says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Kulik won't allow Wang to pass to mount. Wang with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Kulik is trying to maintain the position but Wang is very close to passing his half guard.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Wang tries to pass to full mount but Kulik defends it. Wang seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Wang tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kulik knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Wang passes to side control. Score +3 for passing guard: Kulik (0) vs (7) Wang
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Kulik is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Wang slows the pace down. Kulik wants to control but Wang postures up. Kulik is looking for a sweep. Kulik is letting Wang control him for a moment.

That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Kulik is being controlled here. Wang wants to control but Kulik is keeping him busy. Kulik tries to improve position but can't. Wang is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kulik has escaped the position, nice work there. Wang in side control, just content to control the action for now.

And that's the end of the fight! Wang wins on points by 7 to 0. A relieved looking Long Wang thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it. |
