And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 81 wins and 55 losses; Vasiliy Kulik! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Kulik drives through and clinches with Wang against the cage.
Wang has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Wang is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Wang has clasped his hands together around Kulik's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Score +4 for clean takedown past guard: Wang (4) vs (0) Kulik Kulik is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now. Wang controls the position. Wang wants to control but Kulik is keeping him busy. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Wang is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Kulik will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Wang has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Wang is looking to take a break and control but Kulik is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wang working away. A lull in the action here as Wang stalls from top position.

That's five minutes gone in the round. Wang takes a little break here. Kulik wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Kulik is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. This is a sustained period of stalling by Wang. Kulik is looking for a sweep. Kulik is trying to escape the position but Wang is controlling the position. Kulik tries to get back to half guard but can't. You can see the frustration on Kulik's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Wang staying calm. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wang seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Kulik for as long as he can get away with. Wang trying to control the position but Kulik is working away.

Wang is looking to take a break and control but Kulik is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Wang in side control, just content to control the action for now.

That's eleven minutes gone in the round. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Kulik struggling a bit here. Kulik trying to remain calm as Wang controls from the top position. Wang's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Kulik is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Wang off and has taken his back! Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Wang (4) vs (4) Kulik Wang tries to roll but Kulik sticks to his back.
Kulik doesn't have the hooks in and Wang manages to turn into his guard.
Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Wang (6) vs (4) Kulik Wang stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kulik swivels though and keeps the full guard. Wang looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Kulik is trying to control the position from the bottom.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Kulik can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Wang controls the pace. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Further stalling from Wang.
And that's the end of the fight! Wang takes the fight on points by 6 to 4. After winning the bout, Long Wang thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility. |
