PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gregor Reilly (ranked 433 p4p, 690 weight class) and Raphael Couture (ranked 62 p4p, 99 weight class). Reilly's entrance music is Cannonball/ The Breeders. A fine choice. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gregor Reilly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Raphael Couture!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Alyssa Summers and John Roberts.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Couture displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Reilly throws out the jab.
Couture uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Reilly.

Couture has managed to clinch.
Couture jumps guard but Reilly stands there with Couture around his waist. Couture gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Reilly misses with a short punch on the inside.
Couture looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Reilly tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Reilly throws a punch but it's blocked by Couture.
Couture jumps guard but Reilly stands there with Couture around his waist. Couture gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Reilly wants to break free but Couture has control.

Couture pulls guard.

Couture has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Reilly is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Couture.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reilly tries to move into full mount but can't pass Couture's legs.
Reilly connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Couture some visible discomfort.

Reilly is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Couture knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Couture manages to work his way to half guard, despite Reilly's best efforts.

Couture is refusing to be controlled, as Reilly sits in half guard.

Couture is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Reilly pulls his head out easily.
Reilly lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Reilly is controlling the pace.
Couture slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Couture working for a triangle but Reilly defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Couture has his foot on Reilly's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Reilly works his way back into a safe position though.

Couture working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Reilly doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Reilly manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Couture throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Reilly escapes and throws Couture's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Reilly wants to lay and pray for a moment but Couture keeps working.
Couture wants to control but Reilly is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Reilly in particular looking to stall.

Couture looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Reilly is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Couture keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Couture tries to control Reilly's body but Reilly pushes him off. Couture squirms to his side and now Reilly has his back!

Reilly has the hooks in. Couture is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reilly tries to free his leg and advance position but Couture is retaining full guard.
Reilly wants to control from the top but Couture keeps moving.

Couture has his feet on Reilly's thighs here. He's pushed Reilly off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Reilly screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
