Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Pertti Kalmakoura! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Paul Baller! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Nard Betker and Aafke Stam.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A combination from Baller does no damage. Baller misses with a hook. Kalmakoura ducked under it nicely. Kalmakoura steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Baller. Baller walks forward, straight into a front kick from Kalmakoura. Kalmakoura clinches. Kalmakoura landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Baller is fighting off a takedown attempt but Kalmakoura is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Baller to the mat. Baller regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Kalmakoura thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Kalmakoura looking to pass the guard. Baller preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Kalmakoura makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Kalmakoura has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Baller escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kalmakoura gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Baller looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Baller looks gassed! Kalmakoura drops back looking for a leg! Baller is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Baller manages to kick Kalmakoura off! Kalmakoura jumps back into Baller's guard. Kalmakoura trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kalmakoura thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Kalmakoura throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Baller works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Baller has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kalmakoura can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Kalmakoura stopping the sweep attempt from Baller. Kalmakoura got a little sloppy there for a moment and Baller has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kalmakoura has managed to get both his arms back between Baller's legs - danger averted. Kalmakoura is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Kalmakoura trying to control the position from guard on top but Baller is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Kalmakoura stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Baller swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Baller looking for a guillotine here but Kalmakoura defends easily.
Baller lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Kalmakoura! Baller wants to finish this one by submission but Kalmakoura is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Baller. Kalmakoura tries to lock up and control but Baller gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Baller won't let Kalmakoura get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. Kalmakoura can't escape the position.
Baller throws some wild stikes that Kalmakoura manages to avoid easily.
Baller with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kalmakoura has decided that throwing punches whilst being mounted is the best he can manage just now. Baller is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Baller extends the arm and Kalmakoura is forced to tap!
