PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Teddy Bass (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Monty Panesar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Monty Panesar was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Teddy Bass!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Monty Panesar!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, John Mangel and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Panesar shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Panesar was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Bass avoids a series of strikes thrown by Panesar.
Bass is squirming around, avoiding Panesar's attempts to control the action.
Bass is wriggling around trying to escape.
Bass wants to hold on but Panesar pushes him away.
Panesar tries to control but Bass wriggling away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Panesar seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Bass is holding on tight.
Panesar wants to control the pace but Bass is squirming around nicely.
Bass tries to hold on but Panesar postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Panesar looking to control but Bass is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bass swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Bass gets back to half guard.
Bass keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Panesar prevents Bass from improving his position.
Bass trying to control here.
Panesar not landing any meaningful shots this time.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Panesar content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Panesar tries to pass the half guard into mount. Bass knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Panesar trying to control from Bass's half guard. Bass has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bass is on top in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Bass drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bass jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Bass trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Panesar wants to control but Bass passes easily into half guard.
Panesar trying to hold on to Bass's head to control him but Bass postures up.
Panesar looks gassed!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Panesar wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Monty Panesar will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Panesar fails with the takedown.
Bass throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Panesar closes the distance and clinches up with Bass, looking for a takedown. Panesar pushes Bass against the cage but Bass circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Bass throws a wild body kick that Panesar sees coming a mile off.
Panesar checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Bass looks to land a body kick but Panesar moved away.
Bass goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Bass throws the kick towards the body but Panesar avoids it.
Panesar wants to clinch up but Bass keeps it at a distance.
Bass throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Panesar avoids a kick to the body.
Panesar is breathing heavily.
Bass fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Panesar is out of range.
Bass looks for the body kick but Panesar saw that one coming.
Bass throws the kick towards the body but Panesar avoids it.
Panesar fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Teddy Bass has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Monty Panesar.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bass tries to land a front kick but Panesar steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Panesar blocks the body kick.
Bass avoids a punch combination nicely.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Panesar is defended easily by Bass.
Bass wants to slow Panesar down by chopping away at his legs.
Bass looks to land a body kick but Panesar moved away.
Bass throws the kick towards the body but Panesar avoids it.
Good leg kick by Panesar there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Panesar moves out of range as Bass throws a body kick.
Panesar blocks the body kick.
Bass will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Bass throws the kick towards the body but Panesar avoids it.
Bass pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Panesar on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Bass. Bass obviously looking to wear him down.
Bass throws a body kick that misses.
Bass tries to land a front kick but Panesar steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Panesar blocks the body kick.
Bass motions for Panesar to come forward. Bass throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Bass lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Panesar has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Panesar and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Bass tries to score a power double leg takedown but Panesar sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bass somewhat.
Bass throws a body kick that misses.
Bass throws a leg kick but Panesar moved away.
Bass throws a half hearted mid kick.
Panesar tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bass paws at him with a jab and circles away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Panesar checks a leg kick nicely.
Bass thows a leg kick but Panesar checks it
and Panesar counters with a one-two to the body.
Bass looks to throw a body kick

and Panesar counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Panesar.

Bass is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Bass working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Panesar doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Bass is tightening it up a little... Panesar has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Panesar reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Panesar taps out! nice BJJ there by Bass!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:42 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Teddy Bass!
