PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tre Jokinen (ranked 787 p4p, 2002 weight class) and Clarence Boston (ranked 81 p4p, 194 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tre Jokinen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Clarence Boston!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Robert Douchet and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boston will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Jokinen is looking to counter punch.
Boston lands a jab to the head.

It looks like Tre Jokinen has been cut.
Boston lands a head shot.
Jokinen smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Jokinen avoids the body shot from Boston.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

As Boston looks to move away, Jokinen throws a big counter combo but Boston just gets out of the way.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jokinen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Boston swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Boston has momentary wrist control but Jokinen slips an elbow through the middle.

Boston is staying active underneath Jokinen, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jokinen is trying to control the action in half guard but Boston is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Jokinen is just content to waste time from the top position. Boston takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Boston wants to sweep but no luck.
Jokinen is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Boston bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Jokinen's head.

and Jokinen counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Boston feints a jab promting Jokinen to slip. Boston then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Jokinen slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Jokinen uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Boston.
Jokinen takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Jokinen shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jokinen showed some decent athleticism there.

Boston felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Boston is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Jokinen pulls his head out easily.
Jokinen is keen to just control but Boston is a slippery customer.

Jokinen seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Boston wants to get back to his feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Boston throws a jab but it's blocked by Jokinen.
Boston shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Jokinen eats them both and turns towards Boston to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Jokinen moves away from the strike by Boston.
Boston throws an overhand right that lands on Jokinen's shoulder, as Jokinen tries to avoid the shot.
Jokinen moves out of range as Boston strikes.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Jokinen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
