PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jaro Key (ranked 1630 p4p, 1461 weight class) and Jay Leaf (ranked 171 p4p, 153 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Key might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to HonestKey- The Unseen. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jaro Key!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jay Leaf!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Key misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Leaf counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Key lands a jab.
Leaf takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Leaf slips a jab from Key.
Leaf lands with a shot to the body.
Key takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Key misses with an uppercut
and Key takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Key throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Leaf was covering up waiting for the punch and Key finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Leaf is looking for a triangle but Key pushes his legs off easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Key in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Key is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Leaf has control of Key's left arm, preventing Key from doing any damage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Key sitting in guard here, content to control.

Leaf is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Key slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Leaf not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Key is looking to work some ground and pound but Leaf has wrist control.
Key throwing strikes but missing.
Key trying to control but Leaf is working from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Key uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Leaf.
Key walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Leaf throws a hook but Key blocks it.
Leaf throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Key moves out of range as Leaf strikes.
Key has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Key there as he acknowledges the shot.
Key takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
No joy there for Key, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

and Leaf counters with a left to the body.
Key throws a jab but it's blocked by Leaf.

Key misses with a looping right.

Leaf shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Key manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Key keeping moving, preventing Leaf from controlling successfully.
Leaf looking to sit in guard and control but Key gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Leaf is looking for a triangle here but Key uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Leaf tries to bench press Key off him but Key keeps the position.

Leaf stops Key from passing to mount.
Leaf is trying to control Key's posture but Key avoids it.
Check out the look on Key's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Key is really struggling to control Leaf but he's trying to hold on to the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Leaf tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Key wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Key wants to control but Leaf is keeping him busy.
Key postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Leaf trying to control but Key flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!

Key gets his hands free as Leaf looks to control.

Key just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Leaf is trying to break free.
Key is trying to control but Leaf is trying to escape here - he's now mounted.
Leaf is looking to improve his position but Key isn't that keen on the idea.

Key trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Leaf wants to hold on but Key pushes him away.
Leaf holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Key tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Key can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Leaf is looking to escape.
Leaf is desperately trying to improve his position but Key has a good base and remains in mount.
Key postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Leaf looks a forlorn figure.
Leaf bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Key has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Leaf can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Key keeping moving, preventing Leaf from controlling successfully.

Key working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Leaf doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Leaf manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Key is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Key is trying to control. Leaf wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Leaf wants to control but Key is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Leaf is refusing to be controlled, as Key sits in half guard.
Leaf is in trouble now - Key has advanced to mount!

Key throws some wild stikes that Leaf manages to avoid easily.
Leaf tries to hold on but Key pushes him away.
Key can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Leaf is looking to escape.
Leaf takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Key looking to ground and pound but Leaf is blocking nicely.
BOOM! Key connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Key pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Key is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Leaf tries to lock up and control but Key gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Leaf wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Key.
Leaf is desperately trying to improve his position but Key has a good base and remains in mount.
Jaro Key overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Leaf wants to hold on but Key pushes him away.

Key avoids the attempt from Leaf to control.
Leaf keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Leaf wants to hold on but Key pushes him away.

Key unloads with some shots from mount but Leaf bucks and avoids them well.

Key landing strikes from the mount and Leaf is in trouble!

Key controlling the pace for now.
Leaf is still in real trouble! Can Key finish him?
Leaf tries to hold on but Key pushes him away.
Leaf tries to reverse the position but Key maintains control.
Key loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Leaf scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Key land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Key stands and salutes the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jaro Key!
After winning the bout, Jaro Key thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
