PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gakus Amiga (ranked 23662 p4p, 23481 weight class) and Richard John Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 44 - 62 - 7, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gakus Amiga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 51 - 61 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Richard John Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Amiga tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Salvacion defends well and Amiga ends up having to push Salvacion into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Amiga pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Amiga shoots for a double leg takedown but Salvacion sprawls well. He's pushed Amiga's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Salvacion is trying to counter with his kicks.
Nice takedown defense from Amiga. No joy for Salvacion on that attempt.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Amiga enables Salvacion to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Amiga manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Salvacion slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Amiga tries to strike from the bottom.
Amiga is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Amiga looking for a sweep. Not yet Amiga, not yet.
Salvacion makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Salvacion won't allow Amiga to sweep him here.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Amiga fails with the takedown.
Salvacion replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Amiga blocks it well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gakus Amiga. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Salvacion gets caught napping as Amiga dives in and scores a takedown. Salvacion manages to retain guard.
Salvacion thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Salvacion pulls Amiga in close to prevent any damage.
Amiga is stalling in the full guard.
Salvacion is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Amiga is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gakus Amiga will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Amiga fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Salvacion thinks about the counter body kick.

Amiga shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Amiga was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion wants to control but Amiga postures up.

Amiga takes a little break here. Salvacion wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Salvacion can't do much from the bottom here.
Amiga working the strikes but Salvacion uses the opportunity to regain half guard.

Amiga looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Salvacion is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Amiga's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Amiga's back!
Amiga is trying to stand back up.
Amiga is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Salvacion.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Amiga trying to control the hands but Salvacion won't let him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Salvacion controlling the position well here. Amiga rolled but Salvacion kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Amiga wants to escape the position but for the time being he's just trying to control the pace.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Salvacion controlling the positon.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Richard John Salvacion will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Amiga shoots in looking for a takedown but Salvacion manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Amiga's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Amiga moves out of range of the body kick from Salvacion.

Amiga shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Salvacion manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Amiga slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Salvacion holds on and takes a little breather.
Gakus Amiga overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Amiga trying to control but Salvacion is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Salvacion is pulling down on Amiga's head to control his posture.
Amiga wanted to stand there but Salvacion had control of the position.
Salvacion is adopting a defensive guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Salvacion looks to throw a body kick
and Amiga counters with a nice leg kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Salvacion shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Amiga defends it nicely.
Amiga is looking for a counter combo.
Salvacion fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Amiga controls from within his opponent's guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Gakus Amiga showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Amiga has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
