Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between DeAndre Ward (ranked 25215 p4p, 4577 weight class) and Fish Oper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). DeAndre Ward has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, DeAndre Ward! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fish Oper! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Oper connects with a leg kick. Oper is looking to clinch but Ward is avoiding it.
Oper tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ward swats him away and circles back towards the center. Ward wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. The fight stays on the outside here - Oper looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Oper closes the distance and pushes Ward back into the cage. Oper misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Ward.
Oper tries to land knees in the clinch but Ward avoids the damage to the body. Ward blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Oper takes a knee to the side of the body. Ward tries to score a body lock takedown but Oper shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Oper stops a takedown attempt from Ward.
Ward has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Oper regains guard immediately. Ward has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Ward drops back looking for a leg! Oper is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Oper manages to kick Ward off! Ward jumps back into Oper's guard. Ward trying to control but Oper is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Oper preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Oper utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Ward is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Oper is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Oper has escaped and now he's on top! Oper preventing the sweep. Oper stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ward swivels though and keeps the full guard. Oper trying to control the position from guard on top but Ward is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ward had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Oper defends it easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Oper distracts Ward with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Ward working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Oper doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oper manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Ward definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Oper looking to pass the guard. Ward is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Oper should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Ward keeping moving, preventing Oper from controlling successfully. Ward is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Ward is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Oper defends well. Oper loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Oper trying to control the position from guard on top but Ward is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Oper stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ward swivels though and keeps the full guard. Ward knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Oper on the ground. Oper looks winded! Oper postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Ward looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Ward has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Oper has passed into side control.
Ward is looking for a sweep. Oper decides to stand back up. Oper steps back and let's Ward get back to his feet. Oper closes the distance and clinches. Oper missing with knees to the body.
Ward drops down looking for an ankle pick but Oper pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for DeAndre Ward. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ward shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Ward is thwarting Oper's attempts to control the position. Ward not doing much here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Ward postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Oper to stand up. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Fish Oper will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Oper tries to clinch and Ward counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters. Oper throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Ward. Ward keeps the fight on the outside. Ward went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Oper walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Ward checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Oper tries to clinch but fails miserably and Ward counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Ward is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Oper is breathing heavily. Ward trying to control but Oper is working from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ward not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Oper is looking for a triangle but Ward pushes his legs off easily.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Ward has closed the distance and engaged Oper in a clinch.
Ward wants to take the fight to the mat but Oper manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Ward works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Ward wants to control from the top but Oper keeps moving.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ward is pushing down on Oper's leg trying to pass to half guard. Oper is fighting to maintain full guard but Ward has managed to sneak the leg through. Ward is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Oper is trying to stand.
Ward is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Oper has managed to free his arm - good work. Ward is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Oper wants to control but Ward is keeping busy and won't allow it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ward wants to free his trapped foot but Oper is holding on for dear life with his legs. Ward will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Oper is looking to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Ward circles away from the clinch attempt.
Ward fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Ward shoots for a takedown but Oper saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for DeAndre Ward. That's going to take a lot out of him. Oper with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Oper closes the distance and pushes Ward back into the cage. Oper tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Ward avoids it. Ward goes for a takedown attempt but Oper pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Oper is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Oper is looking to take this fight into the clinch. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ward is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Ward looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Oper throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Oper missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Oper not landing any meaningful shots this time. Ward wants to control but Oper is keeping busy.
Oper prevents Ward from improving his position. We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Oper has eaten all the pies! Ward is pressing down on Oper's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Oper preventing the sweep. Ward is working hard here to advance position. Ward throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Oper drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Oper jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to DeAndre Ward. I think Ward has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
