Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Hughes gets the takedown into side control. Score +4 for clean takedown past guard: Hughes (4) vs (0) Shart Shart is looking to reverse the position. Shart gets back to half guard. Shart is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Shart felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Shart trying to control here.

Shart bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hughes's guard. Score +3 for passing guard: Hughes (4) vs (5) Shart Shart wants to control but Hughes is keeping him busy. Shart wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hughes, who protects the arm well. Shart wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hughes keeps working.

Hughes is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Shart is just riding it out for now. Hughes eventually gives up the hold. Hughes is looking to advance position but Shart won't allow it.

Shart tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hughes wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Shart is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Hughes off and has taken his back! Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Hughes (20) vs (15) Shart Shart is not going to allow Hughes to sit and survive in this position. Hughes might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Shart is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Shart patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? Hughes trying to control the position but Shart manages to sink in the hooks.

Shart has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Hughes has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Shart working for a choke but Hughes is defending well. Shart tries to get the hooks in deep but Hughes pushed the leg off. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Shart really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Hughes.
And that's the end of the fight! Hughes takes the fight on points by 20 to 15. Rumsfeld Shart spoke after the fight, saying 'You either win or you learn, this time I learned... Ossss'. |
