The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lawson throws a head kick but Shaffir moves out of range.

It looks like Jack Lawson has been cut.
Shaffir moves into range and clinches up with Lawson.

Lawson tries to pull guard but Shaffir forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
We've been hearing reports that Lawson has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Shaffir gets underhooks to prevent Lawson's takedown attempt.
A frustrated look appears on Shaffir's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Lawson passes Shaffir's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lawson has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Lawson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Shaffir is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.

He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Shaffir looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Lawson! Submission of the night perhaps?
