PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dawindi Buktot (ranked 23680 p4p, 23632 weight class) and Kulata Bitok (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kulata Bitok told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 45 - 64 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dawindi Buktot! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 37 - 71 - 7, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kulata Bitok! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Buktot fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bitok avoids it really well and circles away. Bitok steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect. Bitok stuffs the takedown attempt from Buktot. Buktot gets slowly back to his feet. Bitok appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Buktot bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Buktot working the head with strikes. Buktot creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Bitok sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. What's Bitok going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle. Buktot staying calm. Bitok is looking for a sweep.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Bitok is letting Buktot control him for a moment. Buktot trying to control the position but Bitok is working away. Bitok is trying to improve his position.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Buktot shoots in for a takedown but Bitok shows good takedown defense. Bitok is trying to counter with his kicks. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dawindi Buktot. That's going to take a lot out of him. Buktot fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bitok avoids it really well and circles away. Bitok counters with a body kick. Bitok throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Buktot tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Bitok is in Buktot's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bitok controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Kulata Bitok will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action! Bitok has a takedown stuffed. Bitok shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Buktot defends it nicely. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Buktot misses with a takedown attempt - Bitok sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Bitok is trying to counter with his kicks.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bitok shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Buktot's guard. Buktot is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Buktot has Bitok pulled in close to control his posture.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Buktot wants to control but Bitok passes easily into half guard.
Buktot blocking the ground and pound attempt from Bitok. Buktot wants to control but Bitok is keeping busy and won't allow it. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Bitok trying to control the pace.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bitok drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Buktot has control of Bitok's left arm, preventing Bitok from doing any damage. Bitok is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bitok postures up.
Bitok has been the more effective fighter overall so far. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Buktot being controlled here, momentarily.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Kulata Bitok showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Bitok fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Buktot sprawls well initially but Bitok persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Buktot wants to get back to full guard but Bitok has mounted him! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Buktot is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Bitok content just to control the position here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Buktot tries to hold on but Bitok postures up. Bitok prevents Buktot from getting the reversal. Buktot is working hard here to advance position. Bitok controlling the pace for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Buktot prevents any damage by holding on tight. Bitok won't let Buktot get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. Bitok looking to control and managing it successfully. Bitok thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bitok takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Bitok scoring with strikes but Buktot is staying in there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Buktot wants to control but Bitok is having none of it. Buktot is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control. Bitok tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Dawindi Buktot has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Kulata Bitok is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that's the end of the fight! Kulata Bitok comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Bitok has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
