Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rich Shappens (ranked 24757 p4p, 3070 weight class) and Matthias Schmitt (ranked 505 p4p, 343 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rich Shappens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matthias Schmitt!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shigeki Sano and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shappens fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Schmitt avoids it really well and circles away.
Schmitt swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Shappens throws a hook to the side of Schmitt's head but Schmitt sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Schmitt throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Shappens on the side of the head.
Shappens falls off balance throwing a combination
and Schmitt counters with a stiff right hand.
Shappens takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Shappens gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Schmitt makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Schmitt digs a good body shot into Shappens's ribs.
Shappens misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Shappens shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Schmitt but Schmitt pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Horrible takedown attempt by Shappens or perhaps it was just good defense by Schmitt, which made it look bad.
