Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Deanthony Pederson (ranked 375 p4p, 807 weight class) and Mick Marsden (ranked 46 p4p, 105 weight class). Marsden is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Brick - Ben Folds Five. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 17 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Deanthony Pederson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mick Marsden! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Dillan Fox and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Marsden listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Marsden pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Pederson was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit. Pederson takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Marsden looks to throw the jab but Pederson is out of range. Pederson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Marsden to the ground. Pederson is now in Marsden's guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Pederson prevents Marsden from getting back to his feet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Marsden controlling Pederson's posture. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pederson scoring with some ground and pound. Pederson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pederson working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Pederson wants to control from the top but Marsden keeps moving. Pederson sitting in guard, not really doing much. Pederson keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Marsden's head. Marsden avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Pederson slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Pederson misses with the ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pederson working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Pederson slows the pace down. Marsden tries to improve position but can't. Pederson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Marsden takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Pederson working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Marsden wants to get back to his feet. Pederson is looking to take a break and control but Marsden is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Pederson goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Marsden rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Pederson's guard! Nice work there by Marsden! Pederson is looking for a triangle here but Marsden uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pederson is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Marsden off and has taken his back! Marsden grimaces as he takes a shot to the body. Pederson has his opponent's back but Marsden is looking to stand. He manages to get to his feet and shakes off Pederson. Pederson misses with a takedown attempt enabling Marsden to counter with a crisp jab. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Pederson tries for a takedown but Marsden circles away easily and Marsden counters with a straight right hand. Pederson blocks a low kick nicely. No luck for Pederson with that takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Deanthony Pederson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Pederson swings and misses with a shot to the body and Marsden counters with a leg kick. Pederson swings for the body but Marsden moves out of range.

Pederson feinted with a counter takedown. Pederson will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Marsden walks into a jab. Marsden throws a hook to the side of Pederson's head but Pederson sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Pederson scores with a body shot.

and Marsden counters with a good low kick that Pederson was not able to check. Marsden stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Marsden slips under a jab from Pederson. Marsden throws a sloppy head kick and Pederson moves out of range easily. Pederson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Marsden moves away. Marsden smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Marsden lands with an overhand left. Pederson with a body punch. A glancing blow. Marsden doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Pederson swings away with a body shot that misses
and Marsden counters with an inside leg kick. Marsden looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

and Marsden counters with a lovely straight right hand! Marsden leaves Pederson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Marsden flicks out a counter leg kick but Pederson steps away. Pederson thuds his right hand into Marsden's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Marsden lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Pederson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Marsden as he jumps to the side. Pederson misses with a looping left. Pederson is looking to wear down Marsden with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Pederson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Marsden looks like he wants to counter punch here. Marsden loads up on a big right hand but Pederson slips the punch.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Pederson fails to land the takedown. Marsden uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Pederson has time to react. Marsden lands a really nice looking cross but Pederson seems unphased.
Marsden throws a big shot that misses. Nice defenses there by Marsden. A little jabbing left from Marsden on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Marsden attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Pederson appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Pederson takes a swing at Marsden's ribcage but misses. Marsden avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Marsden tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Pederson was well out of range. Poor timing from Marsden. Pederson waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Marsden. Pederson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Pederson makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Marsden is looking to stand up but Pederson isn't so interested in that idea. Pederson trying to control the position from guard on top but Marsden is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Pederson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Pederson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Marsden works some decent striking defense from the bottom. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

and Marsden counters with a stiff right hand. Marsden lands a leg kick that knocks Pederson off balance momentarily. Pederson throws a lazy right hand but Marsden sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Pederson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Pederson wants to work for an arm triangle but Marsden is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Marsden moves in to finish and the ref steps in to prevent any more damage!
