This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 6 wins and 5 losses; James Rocksteady! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 9 wins and 8 losses; Sambo Sam!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Ryoma Takatsuka and Colin Fray.

Rocksteady rushes Sam and presses him up against the cage.
Rocksteady has hold of one of Sam's legs. Sam is fighting the takedown attempt but Rocksteady gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Rocksteady (2) vs (0) Sam
Sam working for a triangle but Rocksteady defends it easily.
Rocksteady has gone for a leg lock! Sam slips out almost immediately though and dives into Rocksteady's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Rocksteady (2) vs (2) Sam
Rocksteady is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Let's hope that Sam has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Sam.
It looks like Sam might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Rocksteady controls Sam momentarily but Sam frees himself.
Sam's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Rocksteady looking to control.
Rocksteady is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Sam is aware though and is defending well.
Sam is looking to pass into half guard but Rocksteady pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Rocksteady is in guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Rocksteady (4) vs (2) Sam
Rocksteady trying to control the position from guard on top but Sam is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Rocksteady wants to control from the top but Sam keeps moving.

Sam pulls Rocksteady in to control the position.
Rocksteady is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Sam has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Rocksteady is looking to defend but Sam has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Rocksteady! Sam pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Rocksteady taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Sambo Sam!
Sambo Sam decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little. |
