PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Storm Father (ranked 4205 p4p, 4017 weight class) and David Lotaro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Storm Father has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Storm Father!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, David Lotaro!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Ben Watson and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lotaro darts in and clinches Father up against the cage.

Lotaro works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Father might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Father is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Lotaro is controlling him.
Lotaro seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Let's hope that Lotaro has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Lotaro must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
It looks like Lotaro might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lotaro takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Father takes the fight into the clinch.
Lotaro tries for a takedown. No joy.
Father stops a takedown attempt from Lotaro.
Lotaro is trying to drag Father to the mat but Father just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Storm Father has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Lotaro.

Lotaro has picked Father up - he's going for a ride! Lotaro dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Father is trying to stand up here but Lotaro is controlling him well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Still in half guard, Lotaro seems content to control.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Lotaro tries for a kimura but Father is defending well.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Father is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Lotaro asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

David Lotaro dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Father works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lotaro connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Father some visible discomfort.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Lotaro's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Father is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Father lands a left and a right that send Lotaro crashing to the mat, dazed. Father thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Father moves into range and clinches up with Lotaro.
Father throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Lotaros head.
Father fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Father scores with a shot to the side of Lotaro's head.

Father lands a left hand that snaps the head of Lotaro backwards.
Father lands a right hand.
Lotaro blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Father scores with a shot to the side of Lotaro's head.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Father creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Still in the clinch, Father scores with a nice short uppercut.

Lotaro is trying to trip Father. He has hold of a leg but Father is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Lotaro persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Father wriggles free and stands up.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Lotaro drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Father lands a left hand that snaps the head of Lotaro backwards.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Storm Father dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Father instigates a clinch.

Lotaro seems to have recovered his senses.
Father misses with a hook from the clinch.
Storm Father has scored more points in the clinch so far.
Lotaro drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Father gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Lotaro goes for a takedown attempt but Father pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Storm Father has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Lotaro.

Father drops Lotaro with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Lotaro looks back up at him and smiles so Father waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The fighters are working up against the cage. Father manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Lotaro takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Lotaro is looking to take this one to the mat.

Lotaro wants to take the fight to the mat but Father manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Father lands a left hand that snaps the head of Lotaro backwards.
Father using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Lotaro has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Still in the clinch, Father scores with a nice short uppercut.
Father lands a body punch in the clinch.
Lotaro wants to take the fight to the mat but Father manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Father gets through Lotaro's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Father.
Father lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Father gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Lotaro.
Father lands a body shot in the clinch.
Father unloads with a big right hand that wobbles Lotaro! He's leaning against the cage trying to keep his feet but Father is unloading with more strikes now! Lotaro drops to his knees and the referee stops the fight for a TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Storm Father!
