And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 33 wins and 17 losses; Cesare Borgia! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Alec Ball and Steve Smith.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Ramirez looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Ramirez (2) vs (0) Borgia Ramirez controlling the action here. Ramirez has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Ramirez tries to pass the half guard into mount. Borgia knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Borgia is looking for a sweep. Ramirez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ramirez is pressing down on Borgia's thigh, looking to free his foot. Borgia is holding on for now.

Borgia is concentrating on defense, preventing Ramirez from advancing position. Ramirez not doing much here.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Ramirez slows the pace down in half guard.

That's eight minutes gone in the round. Borgia tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ramirez wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Ramirez working away. Borgia won't allow Ramirez to sweep him here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ramirez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Borgia manages to get himself to full guard.

That's ten minutes gone in the round. Borgia can't do much from the bottom here. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Borgia sneaks back into half guard. Ramirez sitting and controlling from the half guard. Ramirez wants to pass to mount but Borgia is defending the position.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Borgia is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Borgia is trying to control but Ramirez manages to pass to mount!

That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Borgia looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. Ramirez just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
I really don't envy Borgia right now.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Ramirez has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Borgia's body.
Ramirez patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? Borgia is really stuck here.

That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Borgia breaks Ramirez's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Ramirez wants to control from the top but Borgia keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Borgia pulls Ramirez in close to prevent any damage.
And that's the end of the fight! Ramirez takes the fight on points by 18 to 4. Jackson Ramirez retains his middleweight title! A loyal slave to those sponsorship dollars, Jackson Ramirez made sure he mentioned Threads of Fate, along with how happy he was to win his fight. |
