This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 25 wins and 11 losses; Satan Blue! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 81 wins and 56 losses; Vasiliy Kulik! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Chad Campbell and Steve Montenegro.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Blue shoots for a takedown but Kulik saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Kulik instigates a clinch. Blue is pressed up against the cage. Kulik has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Blue down to the mat. Blue avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Blue changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kulik tries to avoid it but Blue manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kulik to the ground. Kulik escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kulik rushes Blue and presses him up against the cage.
Blue is fighting off a takedown attempt but Kulik is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Blue to the mat. Blue regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Blue (0) vs (2) Kulik Blue keeping moving, preventing Kulik from controlling successfully. Blue is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Blue might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kulik won't allow Blue to sweep him here. Kulik is pushing down on Blue's leg trying to pass to half guard. Blue is fighting to maintain full guard but Kulik has managed to sneak the leg through. Blue is looking to improve his position.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Blue has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kulik is working away from the top position though. Blue moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kulik engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Kulik wants to control from the top but Blue keeps moving.
Blue looking for subs off his back but Kulik has passed one foot through into half guard.
Kulik with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Kulik looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Blue trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Kulik manages to pass to mount!
Score +3 for passing guard: Blue (0) vs (5) Kulik Kulik tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Blue is in all sorts of trouble here.
Blue sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Blue trying to hold on to Kulik's head to control him but Kulik postures up.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Kulik keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Blue tries to roll over but Kulik keeps him under control. Blue is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Kulik jumps into side control! Score +3 for passing guard: Blue (0) vs (8) Kulik Kulik controls the position from side control. Blue can't do much from the bottom here.
 That's five minutes gone in the round. Blue is not content to let Kulik control the position. Blue is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Blue wants to control but Kulik postures up. Kulik trying to control the action but Blue is working from the bottom. Blue tries to buck Kulik off but Kulik is having none of it.
 That's six minutes gone in the round. Kulik moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. It looks like Kulik might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

 That's seven minutes gone in the round. Blue is looking for a sweep. Blue manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Kulik is figuring out what he wants to do next. Blue wants to improve his position but Kulik is controlling well.
Kulik is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Blue is looking to control Kulik's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Blue avoid being mounted?
 That's eight minutes gone in the round. Blue trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Score +3 for passing guard: Blue (0) vs (11) Kulik Kulik looking to control and managing it successfully. Blue is looking to get to half guard. Kulik has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at KFA. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. Kulik controlling the pace for now. Blue is trying to escape the mount.
 That's nine minutes gone in the round. Kulik takes Blue's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Blue is in trouble. Score +3 for taking back: Blue (0) vs (14) Kulik Kulik controls the position. Kulik wants to control but Blue manages to buck him off and is now in Kulik's guard! Nice work there by Blue! Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Blue (2) vs (14) Kulik Blue not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
 That's ten minutes gone in the round. Blue looking to sit in guard and control but Kulik gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Blue (2) vs (16) Kulik
Blue looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Kulik passes into side control.
Score +3 for passing guard: Blue (2) vs (19) Kulik Blue is looking to reverse the position. Blue struggling a bit here. Blue tries to improve position but can't.
 That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Blue prevents Kulik from improving position. Blue manages to get back to half guard. Blue moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Blue lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Blue (4) vs (19) Kulik Blue sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kulik's guard. Blue prevents Kulik from improving his position.
 That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Blue controlling the action here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Blue is keen to just control but Kulik is a slippery customer. Blue trying to control from Kulik's half guard. Kulik has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Blue is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Blue forces his way into half guard.
 That's thirteen minutes gone in the round.
Blue is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kulik defends it well. Blue is looking to take a break and control but Kulik is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The fighters are battling for position here. Kulik manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Blue passes into half guard.
Blue looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
 That's fourteen minutes gone in the round.
Blue seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Kulik has recovered full guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Blue tries to free his leg and advance position but Kulik is retaining full guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Kulik wins on points by 19 to 4. Vasiliy Kulik decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well. |
