Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joaquim Perez (ranked 4014 p4p, 5144 weight class) and Jase Calderon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joaquim Perez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jase Calderon! The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Daniel Blasius and Radbod Blank.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Calderon fails with a takedown attempt. Calderon tries to clinch but Perez is having none of it. Calderon throws a left and a right that both miss
and Perez counters with a shoot takedown. Calderon fights it but they end up in guard. Perez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Perez drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Calderon dives on top into guard. Calderon pushes down on Perez's leg and manages to get into half guard. Calderon trying to work for an americana but Perez has managed to regain full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Calderon wants to get up but he can't break Perez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Perez keeping full guard, as Calderon tries to pass.
That's one minute gone in the round. Perez pulls Calderon in close to prevent any damage. Calderon trying to control but Perez is working from the bottom. Calderon has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Perez is proving hard to escape from. Calderon trying to control the position from guard on top but Perez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Perez looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Calderon wants to control from the top but Perez keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Calderon trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Calderon wants to control from the top but Perez keeps moving. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Calderon displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Perez tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Calderon gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. That's three minutes gone in the round. Perez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Calderon has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Perez has managed to get both his arms back between Calderon's legs - danger averted. Perez throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Calderon works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Perez missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Perez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Calderon on the ground. Calderon is trying to control the position but Perez postures up. Perez wants to pass the guard but Calderon is keeping the position. Perez showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Perez looking to pass the guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Calderon is trying to keep Perez in close.
Calderon wants to stand and escape but Perez is having none of it.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Perez defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Calderon. Calderon throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Perez shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Perez showed some decent athleticism there. Perez is breathing heavily. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Perez controlling the action here. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Joaquim Perez will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Perez drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Perez shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Perez showed some decent athleticism there. Well, if Perez is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Calderon tries to clinch up. Calderon shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Calderon pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Perez half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Calderon misses with the body kick and Perez counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Perez. Calderon has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Perez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Calderon is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Calderon looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Perez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Perez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Perez avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Perez is stalling in the full guard. Perez wants to stand and escape but instead Calderon has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Perez can't keep his opponent in guard - Calderon advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Calderon wants to pass the guard but Perez is defending well. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Calderon is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Perez has managed to free his arm - good work. Jase Calderon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round! Perez defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Calderon. Calderon closes the distance looking to clinch and Perez counters with a nice double leg into guard. Calderon trying to keep a closed guard but Perez is proving a slippery customer.

Calderon is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Joaquim Perez. I think Perez has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
