PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Martin Burns (ranked 2423 p4p, 3300 weight class) and Robbie Lesage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Burns's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, will ospreay theme. Robbie Lesage will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Martin Burns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Robbie Lesage!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Robert Twigg and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burns tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Lesage defends well and Burns ends up having to push Lesage into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Lesage has a couple of punches blocked by Burns.

Burns pulls guard effortlessly.
Burns looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Lesage puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Lesage is looking to advance position but Burns won't allow it.
Burns moves into full guard.
Burns keeping full guard, as Lesage tries to pass.

Burns has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Lesage is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Burns.
Burns is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Burns tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Lesage presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Burns tries to improve his position but instead Lesage has taken his back!

Burns tries to escape but Lesage has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Lesage trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Burns doesn't escape.
Lesage has the hooks in. Burns is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Burns breaks Lesage's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Burns pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Lesage is keeping the position for now.

Lesage working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Burns doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Burns manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Burns shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Lesage scores with a decent looking hook.
Burns fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Robbie Lesage dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Lesage bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Burns's head.
Burns shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Lesage sprawls well. Lesage wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Burns gets slowly back to his feet.
Lesage fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Burns looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Lesage lands with an overhand left.

Lesage lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Lesage instigates a clinch.
Burns tries to break the clinch but Lesage is controlling the position.
Lesage lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Lesage lands a left hand that snaps the head of Burns backwards.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Lesage breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Martin Burns seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Burns shoots in and bounces Lesage off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Burns might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Burns controls from within his opponent's guard.
Burns stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lesage swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Lesage is controlling Burns's posture.
Lesage is continuing to stall.

Lesage is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Burns takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
A lazy left from Lesage finds it's target.
Robbie Lesage is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Burns looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lesage is fending him off so far but Burns persists. Nope, Lesage circles away and we're back to standing.
Lesage tries to close the distance and clinch but Burns swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Burns drops down looking for a counter takedown but Lesage sprawls and moves away.
Good shot there by Lesage.
Lesage avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Lesage now looks to counter with a shot at the body.

Lesage darts in and clinches Burns up against the cage.

Burns jumps into guard, dragging Lesage to the mat.
Lesage wants to pass the guard but Burns is keeping the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Burns is looking for a triangle here but Lesage uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Lesage moves into full mount!
Lesage trying to control but Burns is having none of it.
Burns has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Lesage struggling to keep hold of the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Robbie Lesage showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Burns's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Lesage, as that shot connected.
Burns walks into a jab.
Some wild striking there from Lesage.
Lesage has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Burns tries to clinch but Lesage moves away
and Lesage counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Burns fails with the takedown.

Lesage rushes Burns and presses him up against the cage.
Lesage lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Burns tries for a takedown. No joy.

Burns lands with a light punch inside.
Lesage scores a nice knee to the body.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Lesage jumps guard and drags Burns to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Lesage is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Lesage has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Burns should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Lesage has tightened it up now! Burns should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
