PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Stephen McGarvey (ranked 3360 p4p, 2992 weight class) and Sean Pereira (ranked 380 p4p, 339 weight class). Pereira has chosen Itsári, by Sepultura as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Stephen McGarvey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sean Pereira!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Phil Schofield and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pereira moves to clinch but McGarvey breaks away
and McGarvey counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Pereira instigates a clinch.
Pereira jumps guard but McGarvey turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Pereira manages to pull guard.

Pereira is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. McGarvey is aware though and is defending well.
McGarvey tries to stand but Pereira is controlling from the bottom.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pereira is trying to keep McGarvey in close.

McGarvey creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
McGarvey works to advance to full mount. Pereira defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Pereira is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pereira is looking to improve his position but McGarvey isn't that keen on the idea.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

McGarvey keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Pereira makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Pereira.
McGarvey wants to pass the guard but Pereira is keeping the position.

Pereira throws his legs up looking for a submission but McGarvey uses it to pass to side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pereira manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

McGarvey decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Pereira tries to close the distance and clinch up but McGarvey swats him away and circles back towards the center.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

McGarvey throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

McGarvey swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

and McGarvey finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

Sean Pereira seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and McGarvey makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

McGarvey breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Pereira wants to clinch up but McGarvey keeps it at a distance.
Pereira tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
McGarvey avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Pereira walks forward, straight into a front kick from McGarvey.
Pereira is looking to clinch.
McGarvey was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Pereira fails with an attempt to clinch.
McGarvey looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Pereira looks to clinch
and McGarvey connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Pereira is rocked!
McGarvey throws a nice inside leg kick.
Pereira is still on wobbly legs! Can McGarvey finish him?
Pereira tries to clinch
and McGarvey counters with a massive hook, right on the button! He's out cold! Damn, that was naaaaaasty! Hopefully he'll be OK.
