Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Dory!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alibaba Mehmet AliKhan!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Steve Erwin and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Dory ducks down and throws a hook to the body but AliKhan moves away.
AliKhan pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Dory appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
AliKhan throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Dory cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
It looks like Alibaba Mehmet AliKhan has been cut.
Dory bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of AliKhan's head.
Dory looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dory staying out of range there.
A nice leg kick lands there from AliKhan.
That's one minute gone in the round.
AliKhan throws a lazy uppercut
and Dory counters with a crisp one two that drops AliKhan! Dory thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves AliKhan to his feet! AliKhan is in big trouble!
AliKhan is rocked!
AliKhan throws an off balance right hand
and Dory counters with a right hand from hell and AliKhan is out cold! A vicious knockout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:16 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). John Dory!
John Dory is the new welterweight champion!
After winning the bout, John Dory thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
