PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tony Halme (ranked 2182 p4p, 3015 weight class) and Shashlyk Lykmekov (ranked 141 p4p, 174 weight class). Halme's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Katri Helena-Katson autiota hiekkarantaa. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tony Halme!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Shashlyk Lykmekov!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Saam Ante and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lykmekov is looking to clinch but Halme is avoiding it.
Halme throws a right and a left that both miss.

Lykmekov gets the takedown into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Let's hope that Lykmekov has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Halme reaches up to try and control the position but Lykmekov seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Halme rolls and tries to escape and now Lykmekov has his back!

Lykmekov is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Halme has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Lykmekov is working away from the top position though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Halme is trying to get back to his feet.

Halme is looking for a sweep.
Lykmekov tries to score with some ground and pound. Halme controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Halme tries to improve position but can't.
Halme gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Lykmekov passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Halme!

Halme tries to lock up and control but Lykmekov gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Halme wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Shashlyk Lykmekov has got the better of the ground game so far.
Lykmekov is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Lykmekov gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Lykmekov gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Lykmekov apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Lykmekov shoots in looking for a takedown. Halme tries to sprawl out of it but Lykmekov keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Halme manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Halme throws a big counter combination but Lykmekov scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Halme looks for the body kick but Lykmekov saw that one coming.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Lykmekov closes the distance and pushes Halme back into the cage.

Halme blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Shashlyk Lykmekov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Tony Halme seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Halme finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Lykmekov throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Halme's waist but Halme gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lykmekov off to one side.
Halme throws a sloppy head kick and Lykmekov moves out of range easily.

Halme gets tackled into the cage by Lykmekov. Lykmekov maintains the clinch.

Tony Halme has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shashlyk Lykmekov.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Halme has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Lykmekov is on him like a limpet, forcing Halme back against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Halme wants to stall.
Lykmekov is working for takedown but Halme is calmly controlling the position for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tony Halme.
I think Lykmekov has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
