PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kugus Amiga (ranked 23295 p4p, 23298 weight class) and Clifford Val Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 56 - 52 - 7, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kugus Amiga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 33 - 79 - 6, fighting out of Las Vegas, Clifford Val Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Alan Glass and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Salvacion fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Amiga avoids it really well and circles away.
A counter left hand to the body from Amiga misses its target.
Amiga goes for a double leg but Salvacion avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Salvacion continues to drive forward.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Amiga is looking for a takedown.
Salvacion tries to circle away but Amiga has him pinned against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Salvacion is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Amiga gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Amiga prevents the takedown attempt.
Kugus Amiga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Clifford Val Salvacion.
Salvacion has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Amiga is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Salvacion has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Amiga avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Amiga gets underhooks to prevent Salvacion's takedown attempt.
Salvacion has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Amiga is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Salvacion has hold of one of Amiga's legs. Amiga is fighting the takedown attempt but Salvacion gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Amiga is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Salvacion is looking to control Amiga's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Salvacion avoid being mounted?
Amiga is controlling the pace.
Salvacion wants to control but Amiga is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Salvacion trying to control but Amiga postures up.
Salvacion might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Amiga haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Amiga seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Salvacion leaves Amiga with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kugus Amiga will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Amiga shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Salvacion's guard.

Salvacion looking to hit a scissor sweep but Amiga is one step ahead there.

Amiga seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Salvacion for as long as he can get away with.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Salvacion dives in and grabs Amiga's left leg, looking for a takedown. Amiga pushes down on Salvacion's head and hops out.
Amiga jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Salvacion shoots in for a takedown but Amiga shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Amiga dives in for a single leg takedown but Salvacion sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Salvacion is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Amiga is pressed up against the cage. Salvacion has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Amiga down to the mat. Amiga avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Kugus Amiga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Clifford Val Salvacion.

Salvacion feints and as Amiga raises his hands in defense, Salvacion changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Amiga tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Salvacion throws a big right hand that misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Salvacion trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Salvacion's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Amiga bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Salvacion's guard.

Salvacion is trying to control the position but Amiga postures up.
Amiga throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Salvacion works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Amiga's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kugus Amiga dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Salvacion with a poor takedown

so Amiga counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Amiga stays in close to Salvacion's body and controls the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Amiga scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Salvacion holds on and takes a little breather.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Horrible takedown attempt by Amiga or perhaps it was just good defense by Salvacion, which made it look bad.
Salvacion is trying to counter with his kicks.
Amiga looks to land a body kick but Salvacion moved away.
Salvacion counters with a body kick.
Salvacion shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Amiga pinned against the cage. Amiga gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Amiga shoots in looking for a takedown but Salvacion manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Amiga's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Salvacion is trying to counter with his kicks.
Amiga shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Salvacion but Salvacion pushes him off and we're back to square one.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kugus Amiga. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Salvacion displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Amiga.
And Salvacion responds with a good body kick, but Amiga manages to step out the way in time.
Clifford Val Salvacion has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kugus Amiga is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Salvacion gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kugus Amiga showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Amiga, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
