PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Paxton Becker (ranked 3865 p4p, 3771 weight class) and Randell Robertson (ranked 0 p4p, 332 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paxton Becker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Randell Robertson!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Ron Honeybunn and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Becker shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Becker was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Robertson tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Robertson manages to work his way to half guard, despite Becker's best efforts.
Becker is looking to advance position but Robertson won't allow it.
Robertson keeping hold of Becker's head, controlling as best he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Robertson tries to roll over but Becker keeps him under control.

Becker seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Robertson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Becker looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Robertson wants to get back to full guard.
Becker wants to lay and pray for a moment but Robertson keeps working.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Becker shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Robertson pinned against the cage. Robertson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Robertson forces Becker back against the cage and clinches.

Robertson is trying to trip Becker. He has hold of a leg but Becker is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Robertson persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Becker is striking but Robertson is not phased and passes to half guard.
Robertson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Becker trying to control but Robertson postures up.
Becker is trying to get back to full guard.

Becker trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Robertson manages to pass to mount!
Becker is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Becker is in all sorts of trouble here.

Becker wants to hold on but Robertson pushes him away.

Robertson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Robertson stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Becker shoots for a double leg takedown but Robertson sprawls well. He's pushed Becker's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Becker looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paxton Becker. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Robertson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Becker to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Becker is breathing heavily.

Randell Robertson dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Becker changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Robertson tries to avoid it but Becker manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Robertson to the ground. Robertson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Robertson throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Becker tries to clinch up.
It seemed like Robertson was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

A frustrated look appears on Becker's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Becker blocks an elbow strike.
Robertson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Becker is looking for a takedown.
Becker is trying to pull guard but Robertson turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Robertson wants to improve his position but Becker is controlling well.
Becker wants to control but Robertson is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Becker looks to land a strike but Robertson avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Robertson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Becker is one step ahead there.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Becker wants to control from the top but Robertson keeps moving.
Becker trying to stand up but can't free himself from Robertson's guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Becker wants to land a leg kick but Robertson is out of range.

Randell Robertson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Robertson jumps guard and drags Becker to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Randell Robertson has got the better of the ground game so far.
Becker wants to control from the top but Robertson keeps moving.
Becker working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Robertson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Becker gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Becker looking to sit in guard and control but Robertson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Becker tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Becker is trying to keep Robertson in close.

Becker not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Robertson wants to stand but Becker is controlling his posture from full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Robertson is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Robertson stays in close to Becker's body and controls the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Robertson darts in looking for a takedown but Becker gets double underhooks and turns Robertson into the cage.

Robertson closes the distance and clinches.

Robertson tightens his grip and picks Becker up, before dumping him to the ground. Becker manages to land in guard.
Becker is trying to control the position but Robertson postures up.

Becker is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Robertson goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Robertson gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Becker.
Becker is trying to maintain a safe position but Robertson gets an underhook and turns Becker into the cage.
Becker jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Robertson walks away with a smile on his face. Becker gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Robertson moves into range and clinches up with Becker.
Becker takes an elbow to the forehead.
Robertson stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Becker tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Robertson smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paxton Becker. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Becker doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Robertson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Robertson.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Robertson slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Randell Robertson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Robertson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
