PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stan Marsh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tito Ortiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ortiz is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Mosh. Tito Ortiz told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ortiz is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Marsh's half guard. Marsh moves into full guard.
Marsh throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Marsh wants to stand but Ortiz is controlling the position. Marsh is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Ortiz postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Marsh is trying to keep Ortiz in close.

Ortiz keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Marsh's head. Ortiz postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Marsh knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ortiz on the ground. Ortiz won't allow Marsh to get back to his feet. Ortiz decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Marsh wants to get back to full guard. Marsh is refusing to be controlled, as Ortiz sits in half guard. Marsh is trying to control but can't.

Marsh is looking for a sweep. Ortiz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Ortiz working Marsh over with strikes. Ortiz is nestled in close to Marsh, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Ortiz takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Ortiz looks to score some points with some ground and pound. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Ortiz closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ortiz lands in his opponent's guard. Ortiz throws a big right hand that misses. Marsh wants to sweep but no luck. Ortiz stands up over Marsh, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Marsh working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Ortiz. Marsh is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ortiz is controlling him. That's four minutes gone in the round. Ortiz sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Ortiz tries to get to full guard but Marsh has control of the leg. Marsh wants to pass to mount but Ortiz is defending the position. Marsh blocks the strikes from Ortiz.
Ortiz is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Marsh scores with a couple of nice shots. Marsh working Ortiz over with strikes. Marsh throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Marsh lands with a punch from half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Ortiz blocking the ground and pound attempt from Marsh. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Marsh working Ortiz over with strikes. Marsh fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Marsh trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Ortiz landing with the ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Marsh keeping moving, preventing Ortiz from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Marsh looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ortiz is one step ahead there. Ortiz is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Marsh smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
It looks like Tito Ortiz has been cut. Marsh missing with a left hand there. Ortiz was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Ortiz slips under a jab from Marsh. Marsh swings for the body but Ortiz moves out of range.
Ortiz shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Marsh pinned against the cage. Marsh gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Marsh is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Ortiz. Marsh fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Ortiz looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Marsh misses with a straight right.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Marsh misses with a wild body shot. Good exchange - Marsh coming out on top. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Marsh jabs at Ortiz's body. Marsh lands a nice shot to the body.
Marsh lunges at Ortiz with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Ortiz's hand. Marsh scores with a nice head shot.
Ortiz is rocked! Marsh throws out a loose jab but Ortiz uses good head movement to avoid it. Ortiz is still on wobbly legs! Can Marsh finish him? Marsh missing with a left hand there. Ortiz was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Ortiz ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Ortiz seems to have recovered his senses. Ortiz keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Marsh. Marsh will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Marsh scores with a decent looking hook.
That has opened up Tito Ortiz's cut even more. Ortiz tries to score a power double leg takedown but Marsh sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ortiz somewhat. Marsh misses with a hook. Ortiz ducked under it nicely. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Stan Marsh dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Tito Ortiz's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Marsh throws a right and a left that Ortiz avoids nicely. Marsh cracks Ortiz with an open hand slap. Marsh drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Ortiz right on the button. Ortiz goes down! Marsh follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Marsh gets the win via TKO!
