The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schmidt The Second looks to land a right hand but Palhares moved out of range.
A quick step to the side and Palhares tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Palhares slips under a jab.
Schmidt The Second slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Schmidt The Second throws a leg kick that is checked

and Palhares counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Schmidt The Second!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Palhares wants to lay and pray for a moment but Schmidt The Second keeps working.

Palhares has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Schmidt The Second is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Palhares yanks on the arm and Schmidt The Second is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Palhares.

After the fight, Rousimar Palhares was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
