PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mao Zedong (ranked 3998 p4p, 5301 weight class) and Peter Okropir (ranked 416 p4p, 501 weight class). Zedong comes to the cage accompanied by Red Sun In The Sky. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mao Zedong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Peter Okropir!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Glass and William Gold.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Okropir drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Zedong wants to get back to his feet but Okropir passes into half guard.

Okropir content to control rather than advance.
Zedong wants to improve his position but Okropir is controlling well.
Zedong could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Okropir seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

It looks like Mao Zedong has been cut.

Okropir is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Okropir decides to return to a standing position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Okropir swats away the attempt to clinch by Zedong.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Zedong ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Zedong scores with a crisp jab that stopped Okropir in his tracks.

Okropir manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Zedong on his heels. He'll look to pass Zedong's guard now, I'm sure.

Okropir got a little sloppy there for a moment and Zedong has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Okropir has managed to get both his arms back between Zedong's legs - danger averted.

Zedong has his foot on Okropir's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Okropir works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Zedong is looking for a triangle here but Okropir uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Okropir tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Zedong is trying to improve his position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Zedong trying to remain calm as Okropir controls from the top position.
Zedong wants to control but Okropir postures up.

Okropir cracks Zedong with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Zedong is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Okropir has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Zedong tries to improve position but can't.
Okropir grinds an elbow into Zedong's temple.
Okropir controlling the position.

Okropir is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Zedong has escaped the position, nice work there.
Zedong is looking for a sweep.

Okropir stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Okropir darts in and clinches Zedong up against the cage.
Zedong lands with a short shot to the head.

Zedong is fighting off a takedown attempt but Okropir is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Zedong to the mat. Zedong regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Zedong has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Okropir should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Zedong has tightened it up now! Okropir should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
