PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bret Smart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Victor Fondue (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bret Smart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Victor Fondue!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smart is looking to clinch.
Fondue throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Smart's waist but Smart gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Fondue off to one side.

Smart closes the distance and clinches.

Fondue pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Smart closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Smart lands in his opponent's guard.

Fondue pushes Smart off and gets back to his feet.

and Fondue counters with a takedown into side control.
Sloppy strikes there by Fondue.
Fondue wants to control but Smart is keeping him busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smart tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fondue throwing strikes but missing, from side control.

Fondue stands up.
Fondue closes the distance and clinches up with Smart, looking for a takedown. Fondue pushes Smart against the cage but Smart circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Smart has his takedown stuffed

and Fondue counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Smart!

Smart is just holding on here. Fondue manages to take his back.
Smart manages to reverse the position and now he's in Fondue's guard. Nice work there by Smart.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smart trying to stand up but can't free himself from Fondue's guard.
Fondue wants to sweep but no luck.
Fondue striking from the bottom.
Fondue wants to sweep here but Smart controlling him for the moment.
Fondue is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Fondue looks gassed!
Fondue tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Fondue wants to stand up but Smart is controlling him.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Smart scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Smart closes the distance and clinches.

Smart escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Fondue will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Bret Smart has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Victor Fondue.

Smart shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Fondue has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Smart is working away from the top position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smart tries to pass to full mount but Fondue defends it.

Smart is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Fondue is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Fondue is looking to control Smart's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Fondue avoid being mounted?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Victor Fondue will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Fondue throws a hook but Smart blocks it.

Smart closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Fondue to the mat! Fondue manages to get full guard.
Smart will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Smart trying to control the position from guard on top but Fondue is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Fondue is trying to control the position but Smart postures up.
Fondue throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Fondue is looking for a triangle but Smart pushes his legs off easily.
Victor Fondue has got the better of the ground game so far.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Fondue is defended easily by Smart.

Smart has Fondue up against the cage in a clinch.
Fondue fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Fondue wants to get back to striking at distance but Smart won't allow it.
Smart gets underhooks to prevent Fondue's takedown attempt.
Bret Smart has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Victor Fondue.

Smart has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Fondue uses from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smart is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Fondue should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Smart controls Fondue momentarily but Fondue frees himself.
Fondue loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Smart looking to hit a scissor sweep but Fondue is one step ahead there.
Fondue content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Smart wriggles free and stands up.
Smart tries to land a front kick but Fondue steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Fondue changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Smart looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Fondue is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Smart is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bret Smart dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Fondue shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Fondue showed some decent athleticism there.
Smart trying to control but Fondue postures up.
Fondue is keen to just control but Smart is a slippery customer.
Smart is trying to stand back up but Fondue is controlling him

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Smart is not content to let Fondue control the position.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Fondue has eaten all the pies!
Fondue looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Fondue is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Smart!
Smart working to try and regain half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Fondue goes for an armbar but Smart turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Smart.
Fondue is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Smart pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Fondue is keeping the position for now.
Smart wants to control from the top but Fondue keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fondue trying to keep a closed guard but Smart is proving a slippery customer.
Smart stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fondue swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Smart trying to control the position from guard on top but Fondue is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Fondue is looking to stand up but Smart isn't so interested in that idea.

Smart stands up and waves to Fondue to follow him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Smart tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Fondue counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Smart's guard now.
Smart lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Fondue!
Fondue wants to control but Smart is having none of it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Victor Fondue comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Fondue has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
