PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Randy Rebar (ranked 4655 p4p, 4728 weight class) and Colby Canvana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Colby Canvana is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Randy Rebar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Colby Canvana!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Ryoma Takatsuka and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rebar misses with a right hand

and Canvana counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Canvana.
Canvana stays in close to Rebar's body and controls the position.
Rebar knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Canvana on the ground.
Rebar looking to control.
Canvana throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Canvana is fighting to break Rebar's control of his arms but Rebar is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Rebar can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Canvana controls the pace.
Canvana tries to stand but Rebar is controlling from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Canvana working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Canvana is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Rebar breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Rebar is refusing to be controlled, as Canvana sits in half guard.

Canvana is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Rebar is trying to maintain the position but Canvana is very close to passing his half guard.

Canvana wants to work for an arm triangle but Rebar is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Canvana tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Rebar is squirming around, avoiding Canvana's attempts to control the action.

Rebar shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Canvana manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Canvana throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Canvana is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Canvana is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Rebar's shoulder. That is not cool.
Canvana lands a decent elbow from side control.

Canvana tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Canvana wants to control but Rebar is keeping him busy.
Rebar is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Canvana is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Rebar is in all sorts of trouble here.

Rebar has given up his back here.
Canvana trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Rebar doesn't escape.
Rebar rolls, trying to escape but Canvana keeps control of the position.
Rebar is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Canvana.
Colby Canvana has got the better of the ground game so far.

I really don't envy Rebar right now.
Canvana has good solid back control here.

Colby Canvana showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Canvana has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Canvana is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Canvana bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rebar's guard.


Canvana drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Canvana jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Rebar is concentrating on defense, preventing Canvana from advancing position.
Rebar is trying to control but can't.

Canvana seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Rebar has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Canvana is working away from the top position though.
Canvana content to control rather than advance.
Canvana is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Canvana can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Rebar is looking to escape.
Rebar tries to improve his position but instead Canvana has taken his back!

Canvana working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Rebar is doing well to defend. Canvana seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Rebar is forced to tap and this one is over!
